Apple making pro sound cards?

If Apple buys Avid as reported by MOSR, they acquire DigiDesign, makers of ProTools and the compatible cards. Any thoughts on this? Would pro sound features, like 24 bit recording become standard on hi-end machines? Pretty cool I reckon!

    Don't forget about Raycer.

<not a sound card, but contributing the fact that apple is doing a lot with what's inside their boxes>

24 bit/96khz sampling is already the Prosumer/ Hi End standard. DVD Audio supports up to 192Khz sampling at 24bit. Core Audio supports 24bit/96Khz Audio already! Digidesigns TDM based HW days are numbered and they know it. Look what Altivec and faster process did with Final Cut Pro 3.0. You no longer need HW for Realtime Transitions. Audio is going to the same way and companies have jumped on this in a big way with excellent software effects programs, synths and samplers. The future is VERY bright for Audio on Macs.
