iMac saving Jpegs as text file.

Is there a reason why my iMac is saving pictures I get off the internet as a "text file"?

It seems that only Adobe Illustrator can open these files...

    Which browser are you using?

If you do a File > Get Info on one of the JPEGs, what does it say under "Name & Extension" and "Open with"?

it works perfect, i get an image preview and everything.

Before it looked like a blank paper.

even as the text file, it would still import into iPhoto like a picture....

    I am very confused.

Sounds like the Firefox preferences are out of whack.

If you check under "Applications" section of the Firefox preferences, is there an entry for JPEGs? If so, what is the associated action?

You might also want to just trash the preferences and start over from scratch. They're under ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox.

Possibly mime-type settings are wrong. For some reason OS X adds .txt onto files it doesn't recognize the mime-type for. It's actually more annoying than useful because you rarely ever get files that don't have a .txt extension but need it.
