Hmm... that's weird, I haven't had any problems. This version crashes less than the old version for me.

yeah, but it seemed like he just wanted a black screen. did his problem have to do w/ battery life?

    oh well...

    im just throwing around thoughts...</strong><hr></blockquote>

    well here is the reason:

Sometimes When I download big files (it is a bitch on a dial up) I have to keep checking in on the computer and moving the cursor, etc. or else sometimes it screws up and stops downloading, so I usually save my big download files for while I am watching a movie or something (usually the only time I will not want to use the computer for a few hours) when it is dark and I can just lean over every now and then, turn the brightness up to the lowest notch, and then turn the screen black again and check it, so obviously I want the dark screen. Sometimes I let it download when I sleep, but usually it only actually finishes the download 1/3 of the time. When I try to "reload" it starts from the begining. Hopfully this should not be an issue soon b/c I am moving in August to school and will FINALLY have high speed internet.

    Ever try downloading a 20 MB files @ 2700 bytes/sec? <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

Whcih remindes me: When I connect via mdem (not airport) it says I am cneected at 28.8. Is this right? Shouldn't it be 56?

This is nonsense as we use a lan. None of my other Macs have had this problem. It is definetly connected to 10.1.5 it is too much of a co-incidence.

Do you have your network control panel set up on the default "Automatic" setting or did you make a custom one? On my iBook (set on automatic) if it can't detect or is diconnected from my airport network it autosenses for another, and for some reason tries the modem first. Since there are no settings there nothing happens.

If you go into your network control panel and turn off the ports you arent using, this should help.

And yes, i know is annoying, but hey, its a new operating system and yada yada yada.

    Duh.

Going to "displays" you can darken the LCD totally by sliding the brightness bar all the way down, and turn it back up using the brightness keys, and while not much of a hassle to do, still not as simple as just hitting the brightness key...

Can someone help with my momentary delema?</strong><hr></blockquote>Are you using Silk? Reports show that Silk is wreaking havoc on AIM. I suspect that putting AIM in Silk's "exclude list" should allow it to work fine...

    ...but I use Adium.

Yeah Aim and Silk do not work together very well. Just use the exlcude like starfleet said and it works fine.

I just tried turning down my display (Prismo PowerBook) and noticed the same thing you are describing on your iBook. I came here to read posts to see if other users were experiencing such a problem. I noticed my screen saver would not kick-in automatically and energy saver settings did not work automatically (at all?) after installing 10.1.5. Maybe it is related in some way. Obviously there are some issues to be resolved in this update. I sent feedback to Apple describing this issue. I hope it gets addressed in the near future.

Yes I get this too, turning the brightness all the way down on my Indigo iBook using the brightness keys does not turn the backlight anymore.

    BUT

Going to the System Preferences' Displays Pane, then taking the brightness down all the way from there DOES turn the backlight off.

To access the Displays Pane quickly, hold down the OPTION key and then press a brightness key.

I haven't used OS X later than 10.0.4 on my iBook, but in OS 9 you can hit the command and lower brightness keys to dim the screen right down in a single step.

Has this feature made it to our Most Advanced Operating System in the World?

Another annoying "feature": every time I unplug my sound sticks, I am automatically logged out. I don't believe this was a problem in any other version. Anyone else have this problem?
