That's a pdf, not a tiff, by the way.

It's easy to set up too. Just click start, set other other computers to use DHCP, and you're done!

Yep, I love it. I didn't know something like this was possible.

Oh yes, it's been possible for quite some time. I had internet sharing on my Mac since 10.0, but I had to resort to Terminal trickery with natd (later BrickHouse included a GUI for it).

Windows has had connection sharing built-in for YEARS. Since Windows 95, I think.

Anyway, Jono, could you test something for me please? In previous Jag builds, the system would forget that sharing was on if you restart the computer. Whenever I restart this Mac, I have to go to the System Prefs and click Start again for sharing to become active. My question is this: if you click Start (and check the checkbox) and then restart the computer, does internet sharing automatically start again when you've finished booting up?

    Really, since Windows 95

I will check that later on when I can, right now I have a server running.

Since Windows 98 SE. Not 100% positive myself, but I'm pretty sure 95 and 98 didn't have it.

this is great! But, now I use PPPoE, and at the most three people can be connected, will I be able to still use both? Or will the connection have to go through the other computer first?

SO MANY QUESTIONS AND IT HURTS ME, SO MUCH!

Is it just me, or is it weird to save a screenshot as a PDF? Why not PNG?

It is a default for taking screen shots from the System in the person's Jaguar Builds. Currently, the default is a tiff.

This can be changed using a preference called TinkerTool, look for it on versiontracker.com

Just tried it, doesn't turn on after booting up. I wonder why they don't have it as an option.

    I thought so.

It actually *did* remember to start it again upon restart back in the 6C8x builds.

Maybe it'll be fixed by GM.

Internet Connection Sharing was included as an optional component in Windows 98 Second Edition only (cannot be used in First Edition), and is part of the standard install for Windows Millennium, 2000, and XP.
  • Reply 18 of 25
yeah but it DOESNT work on XP (most of the time) so it's no big deal...

It works fine under XP. It worked fine under 98SE even.

From now on, though, Apple invented this.
