Removing OS9 from my system
Currently I have both OS9 and OS 10.2 installed on my system I have no need for OS9 any longer and I would like to remove it from my computer. How would I go about doing this and after I remove it from my system will the option also be removed from my peferences when you go to choose a bootup disk? Thanks!! Oh and one other thing my system came preinstalled with them at the same time so if that helps any of you.

Don't you just love Mac OS X's ease of use?

Then if you still can't delete it, do this. Get Info on the folder in the Finder. Then, click the disclosure triangle for Ownership and Permissions. Click the Lock button that appears, and enter your admin password to authenticate. Now, change the owner to your user. Close the info pane and try to delete it again.

1) type 'sudo rm -rf System\\ Folder' (or you could just type sudo rm -rf and drag the system folder to the window).
2) enter your password.
3) there is no step three!
It should be easier, but this will get it without a problem. HTH.
Open the "Terminal"
Type "sudo rm -R ../../System\\ Folder"
You will be asked for your administrator's password.
Type it and hit enter.
Mac OS 9's System Folder will be deleted.
Next, type "sudo rm -R ../../Applications\\ \\(Mac OS 9\\)"
Type in your password and hit enter.
Mac OS 9's Applications Folder will be deleted.

Ok thanks those worked now I got one more folder 'Desktop (Mac OS 9)' what should I do about that it says it is owned by the root and it won't let me remove that one.
I just tried your option and that didn't work either. Both OS 10.1.5 and OS9.2.2 came preinstalled at the same time and I have no upgraded to OS 10.2. Neither of those commands worked in the Terminal. I don't know what to do.

Are you sure? Did you try dragging the folder to the terminal window? Are you logged in as an adminstrator? There's no way it shouldn't work if you're an admin and you typed the commands correctly. We could delete my root directory with that command, if we screwed up the path. Nothing is truly sacred with sudo.
The only thing that could stop it is if Classic is running. Maybe reboot and then try it.

Ok now that I have OS9 off my system in my System Preferences I still have a Classic option in there and since it can't find the OS9 System Folder how can I remove the Classic button in my Preferences?? If it is possible.

Why bother? Is it really that annoying seeing the Classic icon there?

Umm not really I guess But I just thought I could try It's all good though I'm just glad I will never have to use OS9.2.2 on my system again.
Also, I think you could have de-selected the classic folder under classic and been able to delete it from the finder as per normal. Oh well, you deleted it already now, and so it is a little late to try that suggestion this time.
I did not install OS 9 at all when I made a clean install of Jaguar this time. I have no need for it now.
Yay! Jaguar!
All of my apps are for OS X, now that I've installed 10.2 is there any reason not to remove OS9?
Question, how much hard disk space would I gain in removing OS9 from my Powermac?

OS9 all together took up about 1 Gig of space 1.3 Gigs at most. I had no software for OS9 which left me the reason of why even have it. SO I DELETED it GOOD BYE OS9.
