That does seem rather odd... is the machine getting hot? Try shutting down completely, let the machine rest for a minute or so, then restart. If the battery is still showing the same symptoms, I would take it in to an Apple store... it might be faulty.
Also, to keep your battery accurate on its internal notion of its capacity and lifespan, you can try the technique detailed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
