because ADC support was added to Summer 2000 macs and later.... for it to work, there must be an additional connector in front of the AGP slot on the motherboard for the graphic card to plug into.

his powermac does not have that connector on the motherboard</strong><hr></blockquote>

Thanks. I figured that it had to be something like that.

Not many people gave you direct 350Mhz OS X experience, but I got ya covered. I just sold my PowerMac G4 350Mhz exactly 'because' it ran slow on 10.2.3. I'm really a hardcore OS X man now, so I couldn't stand how it would hiccup and stagger at times. If you don't plan on buying a new machine, yes, go ahead and put OS X on it, it will run okay. But it will hiccup at times as far as speed. But it's worth it just to get your OS X wings, the OS is insane. I love it.

Thanks jim, that's what I wanted to know. I love OS X. I did have OS X installed at one time, but this was back around it's beta stage and it was really slow. I realize Jaguar is much faster now, but I felt my 350 G4 is just not fast enough for OS X. Speaking of beta, I absolutely hated OS X when I first used - with a passion, so much so that I wrote many a letters to Apple. Months later I bought a new 500 MHz iBook that had OS10.1, but even in my iBook, OS10.1 still felt slow compared to OS 9. Nonetheless I did fall in love with OS 10.1. I just wish it ran faster and being that my 350 G4 is noticeably faster than my 500 iBook I was just wondering how well my G4 would eat up OS 10.2. I have yet to use Jaguar, that's what I want. In a few months, me-get-new-Mac.

i find that last report hard to believe.

I have a PowerMac G4/400 AGP and OS X Jaguar runs amazingly well on it. I upgraded to a Radeon though so I have quartz extreme support.

i cant imagine 50Mhz making THAT much of a difference

Don't kid yourself. OS X is going to be much slower than 9 on your system. I'd still go for it.

Here is what you're going to have to do to make X as fast as 9 currently is on your system.

    Radeon 9000

    512 SDRAM

    Encore/ST G4 800 MHz

You're looking at $600 to turn that tower into an excellent OS X system. And $200 to make performance tolerable.

Personally, I run X.2.3 on a G3 488 (overclocked)Blue and White and gladly make the speed sacrifice for X and all the benefits it brings. It, however, is a file server and not my primary machine.

If I were you I'd buy an original AGP Radeon, 512 Ram, <a href="http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G4ZONE/sawtooth/SawtoothCPUdesign.html"; target="_blank">overclock</a> that G4, and save my pennies for a new system.

<img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> Assuming things can make you look foolish there serrano. Sorry for my tone, but I have noticed from other posts of yours that you like to take uncalled for jabs at people in your posts. Just pointing something out you might want to look into.

    As I've mention earlier, I'm not into spending money for patch work. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
