So the question is, "Where do you want to go today?"

Verrrrrry ironic bit of hype, that is.

So, where *have* we always wanted a "PC" to go?

Into the bathroom with us as we surf the web?

The fabled flat panel iMac with a detachable, wireless touch sensitive screen? Could be, but a device like that would probably, of necessity, be priced at a point that would barely classify it as Joe Sixpack consumer box anymore.

Or is it *speeds* no PC has attained before?

G5? Mmmmmm, I don't think so. I think we're due to see one last hurrah for the G4. Moto's made it adequately clear the G5 ain't ready for prime time yet; MWNY very possibly, but not MWSF. Probably Apollo in the low to mid 1+Ghz range, sure, but that's not going to be the big bombshell.

How about truly virgin territory for a PC...the Mac OS. Yeah, that dreaded beastie OS X on x86. But then, is that *really* "Like a backstage pass to the future?" That would be quite a stretch.

That leaves, of all things, the now discredited "iWalk." "Where no PC has gone before"...into your pocket. But, *NOT* a PDA, a real, full fledged, >computer< that fits in your pocket.

Would you be "...blown away"?

Is that "Way beyond the rumor sites"?

Is that a "...backstage pass to the future"?

Is that "Where no PC has gone before"?

Hee hee. Can hardly wait for Monday...

I get it, a computer enhanced with some sort of Alien technology, FlexibleMac, "stronger than steel, softer than latex" <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Okay-- satellite broadband: been there, etc., but how 'bout satellite radio for the computer? I like "SpacePort," and want to use it for something.

Or maybe they're throwing in a box DVD set of all Star Trek:TOS with every iMac.

I don't think it's discredited. But I don't think it has been proven real either. For every argument that someone comes up to discredit it, there is a counter argument waiting around the corner. Either way, i hope spymac stays online.. they seem like a fun bunch of people (I emailed them and got a friendly reply within minutes)

I don't think it's an issue about a full-fledged computer fitting in one's pocket...well, because they already exist.

    Look <a href="http://www.citydesk.pt/produto_ezgo.htm"; target="_blank">here.</a>

No, look for something different. Think different.

"To go where no PC has gone before"

Back in the late eighties/early nineties, there was a secret project at Apple called Star Trek. Because it was to "take the MacOS where no MacOS had gone before". It was porting system 7 to intel, they were partly funded by the ever-paranoid Intel, and they got much of the old toolkit running on 486s...

Now look at the front page of Apple.com. As much as I just can't believe OSX X86, This clearly alludes to it...

I just can't believe it though

LOL, and maybe they will actually give us 4 episodes per disc instead of 2...which is the reason I never bought them...too much shelf space.

Anyway, I am psyched about the TNG box set coming soon!

True. There are also others that will fit in a pocket, but not in a useable form. In other words, they all lack screens and input devices, and so I think the fact that they can fit in your pocket is actually not that big a deal -- you can't actually use them without connecting a bunch of other stuff. A PDA sized computer that was fully functional (ie had its own input methods and display, and ran the same OS as the desktops) would be pretty cool. I don't really see apple making this, but it would seem that the little hard disks like those in the iPod might make it a possibility...
