If this is true it would be actually quite remarkable that Apple, who commands only 9% of marketshare has 32% of top programs.
But of course this is just a cheap distortion of statistics.

That's not really true. The NT line of Windows made a pretty distinct demarcation in that respect, it's a lot more like VMS under the hood than DOS.
