I've been playing with the Gallery a lot this past week and just thinking about having this utility. But the dumb thing (at least dumb by Apple standards) is why keep it separate from the Photos app? MobileMe Mail is included with the iPhone Mail app; MobileMe Calendar is included with the iPhone Calendar app. And there's a separate iDisk app too. Seems very clumsy by Apple's standards.
Yes, they seem to have all the bits but aren't pulling them together very effectively. It's unfortunate that Apple often does that - makes brilliant leaps but can't make small steps - and one reason I am pleased to have competition.
Then again, we can hope they'll do something in their re-invented interface?
Right, but at the beach either I or others are around to keep the perverts at bay. A guy with a camera taking pictures is going to raise suspicions and possibly break stalking laws (of children) depending which state or country it is.
Now without encryption on MobileMe as a option, any pictures (even password protected) are nearly public domain and can be altered into illegal pictures.
That's just one example of concern people have and why a encryption option should be available.
Thats hilarious, one pervert looking out for another.... You must have a great time at the beach, why bother going if you're that paranoid? Matter of fact, do you send the 16 yo out with a password encrypted chastity belt? Cause if your not she could be exposed.
So your supposed to deny yourself the joy of private personal photo's on your mobile device just because Apple refuses to implement a encryption option?
Come on!
Have you ever gotten sh*tfaced drunk, took some embarrassing or misinterpreted pictures you later regret?
Wouldn't it be nice to know that nobody at Apple, or hackers, or the cops could see those pictures?
With a auto-encryption option turned on, all pictures uploaded to MobileMe would be encrypted.
People are people, one size doesn't fit all.
Do you actually know how the iPhone and MobileMe work?
If you take a photo on the iPhone it does not automatically get transferred to MobileMe.
It sits there on the device doing nothing, only accessible to the owner of the phone.
If you then choose to upload the photo to MobileMe, then yes it can be seen by others.
Simple answer, you don't want photos on the internet, don't post them on the internet.
If Apple's "size" does not fit you then move on to another supply, it is called freedom of choice.
Would you put your private photo's of your 16 year old daughter sunning on the beach in Hawaii while in her bikini on Flickr? Possibly to be photoshoped into cp and circulated on the internet?
I'm thinking if you don't want your private photos of your 16 year old daughter (that sounds a little creepy btw) out on the internet, then don't put them out on the internet! It's simpl you see. It's YOUR job to control the content you provide to the world, not Apple's or Flikr's.
Nice app, but what's with the asking me to log in? Surely anyone with an iPhone and a MobileMe account will already have their MobileMe settings saved on the iPhone? It seems like Apple is rather password hungry; here, for updating apps, for buying free apps; why should I continually need to enter a password for stuff that doesn't require any increase in security beyond what I've already given?
It's not the worst thing in the world, and thankfully you only have to do it the once in the Gallery app, but it does seem like user experience design is slipping.
So your supposed to deny yourself the joy of private personal photo's on your mobile device just because Apple refuses to implement a encryption option?

Dear MacTripper,
Then don’t use the service, it’s not that hard.

Ok,ok. My bad 2 cents. In my own defense, it was my first post on these forums and my second one I made a point of not quoting. I promise to try and play nice...er. (and I do realize my first quote starts a chain reaction of quotes and spreads the pain)
Hey, no sweat. I just hate to see trolls getting fed and any response to those 2 (or 1) is a complete waste as far as I am concerned.
Enjoy the forums. Generally pretty good info here.
Offer competitive space and bandwidth? I hate Fatcow but but MobileMe reams you with bells, whistles, smoke and mirrors. I have a feeling AAPL's North Carolina acquisition may finally win my account.
Sorry, I?ve been on the road all day. I?ll try to post my wisecracks in more time fashion from now on.

To what service? I suppose I could ask, ?What service offers a competitive feature set??
Nah. MaacTripper isn't anywhere near as insulting or juvenile and he doesn't usually engage in personal attacks. You might disagree with his points of view, (I know I do a lot), but he's nothing like teckstud was.
Totally different "voice" or writing style anyway, and those are hard to fake.
Ditto.

Seriously, I know at least 40 people with iPhones and none of them use this overpriced flaky service.
Seriously, I know at least 40 people with iPhones, too, and 8 have MobileMe. What?s the point how many either one of us knows?
Your Gmail can?t do a 10th of the things MobileMe can do. Of course, if you don?t want or need those services it pointless for you pay for but that doesn?t mean that the service is flaky or overpriced simply because you don?t want the service. For me, the $69/year for all those services for my Macs, PCs and iPhone in one very simple and automated feature-rich package is unmatched by anyone else.
I'd put money on Techstud being the new MadTOol. Yeah old-school flashbacks! Lots of controversy always stirred up by new users about this entity, too. In other words, more handles for the actual Techstud. Another psych dissertation perhaps?

Anyway this is cool.
Your welcome, I think...
Just a rare fluke, just for today. I'm a bit too old to answering a lot of dumb questions.
BTW, I wonder if the iDisk and Gallery app functionality could be consolidated into a single app? Why have two slots consumed to use the same cloud service? Just a thought.
simplicity. this is the same reason why you see the iphone camera and the photos app as two separate apps....even though they ARE the same application bundle on the iphone.

Long time reader, first time poster. Thanks for having me. I have a question:Is Techstud now mactripper?
Not much difference, is there!

Your late to the beat down party solipsism.
Everyone else already had their licks in already.

And what happens to the access of my files if/when my device gets stolen/lost?
you aren't using a passcode on your iPhone? wth?

I LOL'd Hahahahahhahahahahha What an imbecile indeed!
p.s. Come talk to me when I can transfer files FROM my iPhone to my Mac via iDisk. Everything else is foreplay.
