    Defensive much?

It's an easy way for someone to dismiss what another person says around here. I see people throw that name at each other all the time. We sound like a bunch of dorks when we call each other that, seriously. I think some people even forget what it means, and they just call anyone they disagree with a troll, as if they are admitting their opinion stems from some sort of hive-mind mentality, and they know any opinion different from theirs will yield many replies.

Uhhh.... they are YouTube videos and they do work on the iPhone. I just watched one on my iPhone - just clicked on it and it opened in the iPhone YouTube app. So, either you don't know how to use an iPhone, you don't have an iPhone and just looking to be a negative smart-azz, or you're... well, you can guess. So... uhhh... the videos can be viewed on an iPhone and iPad, nothing ironic about it.

Now, back to the sensible comments...

The mobile version of AI doesn't have the links to the YouTube videos on that article. Only the full site, which I don't think most people use on their iPhone as it's less convenient.

Guess I'm in the minority since I only use the full site version of AI. For the reasons mentioned, because the mobile site is limiting and not the full experience. Well, if I misunderstood someone was using the mobile AI then my apologies, but if you use the full site AI you can view the videos on iPhone and iPad, etc. Still nothing ironic about it.

It's certainly not ironic and the videos usually are added. I'm not sure what they did differently.

The mobile version is quite nice. This was just a fluke.

Good gravy, people are really defensive about Flash around here. You guys sure know how to make a fellow Apple fan feel welcome...

Welcome to the forums. I should probably mention that there has been an enormous influx of a particular type of really exasperating troll over the last year or two, to the point where some people have perhaps gotten a little edgy (I myself have been guilty of jumping the gun on dismissing a few people, but always stand ready to apologize if I misconstrue where someone's coming from).

Anyway, hope you stick around and keep posting-- the articulate and considered are always welcome here.

Some people just won't accept that flashy is crappy all because Apple won't cooperate with Adobe to make it run smoothly in osx (like Microsoft did to get it to run great in Windows.)

Flash is better on Windows desktop than Mac OS X, but that isn't even close to the crux of the problem. ARM isn't nearly as powerful as desktop processors and since these low-power, low-performance chips are designed for mobile devices with relatively small batteries have a plugin that eats through your battery isn't good, even if it does technically work. Hell, you can technically get the 3GS to push1080p, but there are reasons not to enable this.

The real issues with Flash is Adobe. They were at the top and got lazy. It's March 2010 and Flash still isn't shipping with Android and other mobiles so that can't be Apple's fault. What could be argued as Apple's fault is their getting into the handset market is the reason there are even Betas of a proper version of Flash for any handsets since without Apple the smartphone market may not have taken off the way it did and Adobe's Flash shortcomings may have gone unnoticed for longer.

Now we have Adobe working on using Core Animation for proper HW acceleration in Flash over 3.5 years AFTER it was first introduced. That is apathy, plain and simple, so between the overall lack of interest in an efficient version of Flash and even less interest in anything Apple for so long it's clear Adobe is playing catchup and now has major players to confront with MS' Silverlight on one front, an exploding smartphone market on another, and the growing HTML5 video tags on yet another that make up the most popular use for Flash today and the easiest part of Flash to replace.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

In order to do that "Starfinder" demo where the iPad can overlay a map on the real night sky...wouldn't the iPad most likely need a camera? I mean, it's possible they could do it with GPS and accelerometers, I guess, but...I'm just sayin'...

Maybe they know something we don't...

As a medical student, that Anatomy Book demo looks awesome. Now, if only more publishers would make stuff like this for their REAL textbooks. Sigh.

You don't even need GPS. We are far enough away from the stars that anywhere on Earth would just require the device orientation using the accelerometer and the compass.

The interactive media books look good but I don't think people will buy a $500 device for their kids to play with. Nor do I think students will buy this device on top of a laptop and mobile. The iphone started out at a much higher price so perhaps the price will come down as people start buying.

Exactly, this is version 2.0 (Palm was the beta and iPhone v. 1.0) of a post-desktop-os world.

Books will always be around, just like theaters, but information is information, stories are stories, interactives are interactives and they will find a place in this new medium, just as web browsing, emailing and most other tasks become done far from the desktop pc.

Books and magazines are the metaphors for new iPad content, not the format.
