But I'm not sure if they'll work with the lower end. The advantage is that they shut off the high end GPU and drop to integrated but unless the low end uses say a core i3 there would be no integrated chip. If they stick to Core 2 Duo, they'd just stick with the 9400M too.
I'd say the Mac Pro update isn't late but given what's shipping on the PC side, the laptop updates seem overdue. There doesn't seem to be any hardware they need to wait for unless there's something else like Light Peak or USB 3 they're waiting on.
I wouldn't have expected them to update both the MBP and MP at the same time but they are both Pro machines so there's no harm in it.
I gave up on Apple, and upgraded my HTPC (Core i5-750, Radeon HD 5770, 4 GB DDR3, Blu-ray drive. USB 3.0/SATA 6.0 Gbps capable*, Win7 Home Premium x64). This thing stomps all my other computers and Mac Mini especially, and it's the quietest, fastest desktop I've ever owned. I've been playing 1080p YT videos and Batman Arkham Asylum on my TV, and they look beautiful.
*the Intel P55 has an issue with how it handles USB 3/SATA 6.0; enabling it cuts the PCIe video bandwidth by half, from x16 to x8, but in actually doesn't affect anything, as current cards don't even saturate x8. I'll enable it, when those drives become mainstream. There are mobos that get around that limitation, but more expensive.
Asus will have USB 3.0 laptops out this month, and Acer is launching netbooks with Nvidia Ion 2 and Optimus shortly too. My only complaint with Optimus, is that I haven't seen it matched with any really good GPU's; the Ion 2 is only like Geforce GT 310M or something.
I don't what Apple's holdup is, unless they are still getting the designs down, waiting for 32 nm, and figuring out if Nvidia is going to do anything to compete with AMD. engaget had a preview of the new Nvidia GTX 480, and while it beats AMD in tessellation, it otherwise matches the 6 month old Radeon 5870.
When Apple does come out their Core i Macs, it will be good for those that wanted; with a quad-core i5 and Turbo boost, I shouldn't have to upgrade my PC for another 3 years or so.

I've been wanting a Mac Book Pro for ever i had one in my grasp 2 X-mas ago but returned it. (New ones were right around the corner) Same with the Mac Pro kinda sick of waiting but i will cause i don't NEED them right now and i know they will get the update soon

...Are the Macbook pro and Mac Pro updates. Seems like its taking forever for them both
I think it's due to the 3rd party manufacturers.
The Mac Pro CPUs aren't out yet from Intel and the GPU situation may be holding back the others.
The Mac Pro will likely use the 6-core Gulftown, one of two models listed here:

These are due this month.
NVidia's Optimus chips have been shipping since at least mid-February:

In 6 months time, Nvidia should've destroyed AMD.
