my problem is that I have become addicted to late night tv (dave letterman, bill maher, conan obrien). Ever since freshman year high school I have started to stay up later and later. Now my scedual on weekends is wake at 1:00 pm and go to bed about 3:00 am. Soon I could be nocternal <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />
My personal record is 81 hours. It started out as a Kevin Smith-athon (all of the movies plus the Clerks TV series) which was one planned sleepless night. I came home to discover that my washing machine had exploded and had been spraying water into the house's foundation for about twelve hours. A quick call to the Roto Rooter people and I had to spend the second night sitting up with every door and window in the place wide open and two VERY LOUD pumps pulling the water out. So, after 48 sleepless hours I get to go to work (Radio Shack) and we're doing inventory, starting after store closing at 9:00 PM. I finally got out of there at about 3:30 AM and had a message waiting on my cell phone from a friend who had been in an accident and needed me to pick him up from the police station. I got home at about 6:00 and the strangest thing happened... I couldn't sleep. I stared at the wall until my alarm went off, showered, and went back to work. Got off at 5:00 and slept like the dead for about 24 hours straight... I didn't feel normal for weeks afterwards. Not an experience I'm eager to repeat.
I'm sure I'm not adding anything much to the conversation... I've just been up since 5 am yesterday (its now 4 am) and I'm gettin ready to head to work for a day of warehousing(woohoo) until around 3. I haven't really started feeling different... Pretty much just a little tired and I'm bored outta my skull and need to kill an hour or so.
I'm pretty excited to spend all day fucking up numbers and Packing Slips and Purchase Orders while sending/receiving parts. That's sure gunna make my boss happy.
I know 24 hours is nothing compared even to 48+, but I've never-not slept and then went to work, so this should be a fun experience.
...I sleep in class all the time. Usually teachers don't care. A few years ago i was sleeping in history class and i awoke to a tapping on my shoulder. I proceeded to yell at my friend explaining that i was trying 2 sleep. Then i turned around and realized that it was my teacher who had tapped me...
Yeah the main time I got in trouble with teachers for sleeping too much in class was when I brought a pillow to school. It was epic fun. My teacher got really pissed off though.
I used to pull one or two all-nighters a week in college... record was 86hrs straight of working. (Never take two classes with major semester projects due at the same time.)
I didn't start having cognitive problems until about hour 48. That was when I started sucking down caffeine like it was candy. By hour 65, I was hallucinating enough that my officemate left because I was freaking him out by telling the gnomes under the desk to be quiet and let me work. I think this is when I started drinking quad-shot lattes every two hours or so until the end. At hour 83, I had an hour long presentation to give. I made it through it one piece, and then it took me two hours to wind down. At that point, I fell asleep on the concrete floor of my office and didn't move for 24 hours straight. Several people came in to check on me to see if I was alive.

I can do about 36 hours now without too many problems, but 48 wipes me out for a couple days after.
I was without sleep for three days (others report it was four, but how should they know, their minds were fresh).
I had to finalize a short movie edit, and only had a limited amount of time at the Avid. I exported stuff, colour corrected it, exported it from there, let the harddrive crash, exported it again, and then had to import and arrange all the stuff in Avid again. And I think I smoked cannabis at that time.
It was a strange experience, but there were no wild dreams afterwards. Only tiredness and a desire to sleep anywhere, even in the car or on the ground.

At another project, a short film to say goodbye to my semester, I slept tow three hours on the ground for three days in our university, where I managed to be awaken twice by a teacher of some sort.

Now, as I'm five years older, I can only get to two days without sleep.
i'm on 96 hours without sleep and ive passed the hallucinations and now its moving me to depression and thoughts of suicide...has anyone been here before?
I'm completely fascinated by the idea of the sleep deprivation addled wandering the internet, responding to six year old threads on random discussion boards.
Or six month old, as just happened. Do you hit a point where you just start googling "awake for 48 hours"?
As far as awake for 96 hours go, for real? Because that's very very bad. Is there a reason you can't just go to sleep?

If you are serious, you are in deep trouble. Number 1 is get some proper rest over the next few days. Then if you still feel messed up, see your doctor/psychiatrist. I'm not joking here.
Back in late '99 I was finishing up my final year lab project and got maybe a few hours sleep between 4am to 8am for about a week. Quite serious sleep deprivation.
I would hit the bed at 4am, then suddenly at 7am I feel like there is a presence in the room (felt for some reason like my cousin that died when he was a kid), and that somehow my life force was draining out of me, and felt like my eyes were open and I am looking around my room but I can't scream or move). Seemed to last for "a few minutes" and I would wake up suddenly. Happened a few times in that week I was sleep deprived.
Can't explain in too much detail, but this bout of sleep deprivation triggered some further psychiatric issues years down the line.
I once spent over 72 hours with my a team member trying to get our final project done: a complete real-time operating system (RTOS) running with all the tasks scheduled. It was a completed system with semaphores, critical sections, interrupts, etc..written in C for the microprocessor. A GUI was written in Java.

Wow serious I just signed up so I can quote this. I googled up for 24 hours. Its now 32 hours I thought 24 would be more relevant in searching. I actually accomplish alot more when I get more sleepier. A bit odd if you ask me. Maybe someone will read this and repost to keep this alive over the years lol...
you know with sleep deprivation cause other more scary symptoms such as sleep paralysis. Longest ive been awake for has been like 36 hours and the next day was pretty bad. My add meds help me cope with the lost of sleep but i on average get 5 hours of sleep every single day of the week. Well sleep paralysis happens to the common person when u are in a state where you could easily fall asleep. And if you awake while u easily fell asleep ur body is still in sleep mode and u hear a buzzing noise and are completely paralyzed. you feel ur body vibrate as u try to move it. in this state your eyes are open if u open em thats the only muscle u can control somewhat. you project ur dreams in this state and since its a scary experience ppl often project demons or the devil or aliens. if u know ur in this state close ur eyes as tight as possible and try to move ur right foot. (its weird but it works) or you can take advantage of this and project ur craziest dreams as they would look real. ive experienced this around 5 times. its very interesting. ive had 1 good experience and like 2 bad and 2 that i didnt care about and tried to prevent it from happening. as of right now ive been up for 28 hours and probably wont go to bed till midnight tomorrow fun stuff
I also googled something similar.. "3 days no sleep" and this is one of the first things that came up. I'm beginning to get a little worried as I am a little tired, very conscious of my heartbeat for some reason, and have Bern staring at my wall for 3 days at night with no results. I found this thread really Close and timewasting. Ate there any resources for sleep deprivation slash insomnia that anyone knows about,, I haven't heard of any..
