Sprint's 4G Android Phone
Getting some nice ink in the tech press. Regardless of whether or not HTC is barred from incorporating multi-touch on such a device, it could indicate the gap is growing yet smaller between iPhone competitors.

It sure looks like a good runner up contestant.
but then again, Engadget is pretty goofy sometimes. they were building the Zune HD to be the iPod touch and iPhone killer big time. and it tanked. It had some great sales for a couple days and then totally tanked.
the Sprint 4G phone looks like it is pretty good. The only thing that bothers me is some of the defeault nasty Android graphics and the locations for home screen items. Google is pretty good at search engines, but the whole OS thing needs some serious help.

It's 3-6M download speed. What the hell is 4G about that? It's a marketing term, that's what it is.
I mean, really, read their description-- it's pure spec porn, and it's clear they could really give a shit if it's easy to use or has a coherent UI. They're palpably lusting after a handset as if it were a combination of gun and sex, for no better reason than it simply ups the numbers of the same stuff-- res, CPU memory, camera pixels, etc.
I just find that stupid and tedious and adolescent. If someone's figured out a better way to do things-- a way that reduces the friction between the tool and my intent-- I'm interested in hearing about that. But Engadget is always going to lose their shit about what the latest iteration of the exact same concept is "packing", because keeping that particular pedal jammed to the floorboards is what they call "a business model."
So seeing phones like the EVO makes me excited not because of the EVO specifically, but because what it might mean for where the majority of android phones will be in the next year or so.
9secondKO: obviously i cant argue the ZuneHD didnt sell well, but i would argue that just because something doesnt sell well doesnt mean it isnt great. Looks like Palm is going under and Pre+ wont exist anymore (from what i hear), yet the pre+ and pixi+ i hear are amazing phones as is the palm OS.
The Zune touch screen music players will never have a change without a large app base. Im sorry, but even i would buy a Itouch over ZuneHD, because of the apps. I love the look of the ZuneHD more, the style, the OS, everything. But the lack of apps is just to much.
As for the "can android have multitouch"...im sorry and i might get some slack for this on a apple forum. But some company needs to push for Patent reform. The idea that apple can patten every wave you move you hand and everything is rediculous. Its like the first car company patenting the wheel and tire and engine or the person who made the first chair patenting the "sitting" position in a chair or the first computer builder patenting Processors/ram/motherboards/mice and keyboard technology for only them to use. There needs to be competition and there needs to be a certain level of "this idea we used first..but its open for others to implement".
