Not likely. HIstorically, the White doesn't sell as much as the Black. Apple purposely estimated demand low on the White models so it could adequately judge demand before over producing. doesn't want to be sitting on white inventory. People who really want white will wait a few extra days for Apple to ramp up production as needed. Apple doesn't like to have more then a week worth of inventory sitting on the books.

Around 8:00PM, the store called me back and said that they couldn't offer me white after all, and that I'd have to come back to the store and get my order changed to black if I still wanted one on release.

Long story short: no one told BB that whites weren't offered.

Damn. No techie employee didn't know that the white wasn't offered? Horrible. I guess some aren't smarter than a 5th grader.

I spent literally 10 hours today trying to reserve them for my wife and I on Apple.com. I didn't want to go with Best Buy or AT&T because I just don't trust them to deliver on time. Finally I was able to get through on Apple.com this evening and we're getting them delivered on June 24th! It was worth the wait. Apple is trustworthy enough to deliver on time.

Bummed about the white though. We were both planning to get white ones as of last night. I just don't want to wait indefinitely (or in a line) for them to come available.

@GQB My confirmation email from apple.com was delayed by about 4 hours. It will come.

For those of you who are pissed that AT&T screwed up and you aren't getting your iPhone on launch day, apple is still taking pre-orders for the 24th. Both shipped for free and in store pickup.

Just cancel your AT&T order and get it strait from the horses mouth.

Oh, I am sure it would have taken you just 8 hours for the white.....

I think the white is very slimming, so the white iPhone 4 may feel even slimmer and sexier in your hand than you anticipated. In fact when you use it - you may well be mistaken for a popular celebrity - so you better be prepared for all the attention! Papparazi sneaking up on you - you know the drill.

Yep. No one will ever buy the iPhone 4. It's overpriced, ugly, and it's only on AT&T.

Meanwhile, it looks like ANOTHER record sales day. My order confirmation from AT&T says that this was the busiest sales day in AT&T history.

    Apple is DOOMED.....

So what point are you arrogantly trying to make? That AT&T's network is great and all the complaints about the network are from Apple haters?

Btw, that "apple is doomed" joke is very funny. I've actually read it here before and it gets funnier everytime it's told.

    Stockholders. So typical.

Why would anyone think that AT&T would be able to handle the demand???? Just wait till 6/24 to see the real confusion. Most likely it'll be worse than last year.

Yeah, I kind of figured the brick and mortar Apple stores and AT&T stores would be a no go.

My plan was to try BB, then the Shack if BB was a fail and finally WalMart on the 24th if the Shack was a second fail.

At a little after 8pm today I pre ordered (actually reserved) a black 16GB iPhone 4 at BB. I am 12th in line so unless Apple drastically cuts stock to BB stores I should have mine on the 24th.

Of course the best way to go is the online Apple store and get it delivered to your home. Unfortunately that isn't an option for me this year.

PS - The BB agent did tell me I could not reserve the white model. It seems BB was not told by Apple they couldn't start taking pre orders for the white iPhone 4 until sometime in the afternoon .

Not me. I don't get the fascination with white, esp. for a portable device. It shows dirt and scratches more easily and just screams look at me.

OK, nevermind I now understand why some people want white

I wonder of the news media is not simply responding to their need to sell confrontational news and publishing the negative comments of the minority in order to sell more news. Seems to me that the fact that zillions of people are fired up enough to try to order on the first day indicates massive satisfaction with the iPhone. While the media focuses on the negative comments of the (relatively) few people who are not happy with anything.

Please note that your reservation will be held until close of business on June 24."

There was no prompt for credit card information. Could be because I had selected pick up from store. My only concern is this -

Thanks Doc! I read that part too! I am not too much concerned any more because I will most likely be canceling that reservation as I was able to get a real confirmation with delivery date of June 24th from Apple.

Not me thank you. I prefer the black one this time as I think the overall white casings looks like an Android phone. My current white iPhone 3GS look much better with only the back panel that is white rather than the latest's white top and bottom front border.
