AT&T confirmed my account is eligible and good for an authorization. Today I called Apple, waited almost an hour, a rep told me that that I need to go to a retail AT&T store to sort it out because Apple can't help me. So I went to AT&T store. A rep there told me that since I placed my order with Apple and Apple cancelled it, AT&T can't help me as they have no idea why the order was cancelled, and that I should go back to Apple. Here goes down the drain my father's day.
The two mega-corporations are footballing me back and forth, forcing me to waste more of my time, and no one wants to take any responsibility. Meanwhile, Apple's pre-authorization on my credit card has been keeping over $300 frozen. Go figure...
Can anyone that ordered through ATT confirm that their credit card has been charged? I still show "In Progress" as my order status and no charge on my card.
AT&T will charge you when the iPhone ship... that's what the email said that I received.....

My iPhone 4 32GB order was randomly cancelled by Apple. Got two identical emails from Apple:
---------------------
Dear Customer,
We were unable to complete the authorization process for your iPhone
order. As a result, we had to cancel your iPhone order. To complete the
purchase of your iPhone, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an AT&T
company-owned retail store.
I feel for you. That really sucks. Call your local news media outlet and have them do a "on your side" story. Maybe you'll get a free iPhone4 like that lady with the iPad.
So what are Apple's plans for all the old iPhones? Are they encouraging people to recycle them? Resell them? Put them in a closet? With 600,000 iPhone 4's already pre-ordered, that's a lot of new electronic waste in the next week. Unfortunately, used/eBay/Craigslist selling market is going to be saturated like no other. Great time for someone on AT&T to pick up a cheap 3GS off-contract or 3G. Only to be replaced by the iPhone WiMax/CDMA/3G/LTE/4G in 12 months with customizable ICONS!
I already posted my 3g on Ebay...set the ending date for Saturday 6/26. I pick up my reserved iphone 4 on Thursday. If there are any issues, I can just cancel the auction. Wanted to beat the rush/saturation of posting on ebay (hopefully not TOO many other people had this idea!)
Apple has taken great care to ensure that all deliveries are executed with the professionalism its customers expect. As a result Apple is using FEDEX, UPS , and other carriers in certain areas to guarantee 6/24 or earlier delivery.
Interesting that Apple is tracking individual iPhones (and other products) all the way from China. I guess it must be faster, cheaper, and maybe also more secure to initiate the tracking process there instead of shipping bulk freight and then FedEx-ing from warehouses in the U.S.
Of course, items to be sold in the brick and mortar Apple Stores are probably still shipped in bulk, possibly by sea instead of air. Slower but much cheaper, I'm guessing.
It is cheaper to have worker bees in China put FedEx labels on 1,000,000 iPhones than to have Umpalumpas do it here.

It's also interesting and revealing that the "Service type" is "International Economy Distribution"
My guess is that Apple employs FedEx with the added responsibility of "distributing" those 600,000 iPhone 4's, direct from the factory, cheaply and efficiently.

When I ordered a custom-engraved iPod nano for my wife for Mother's Day, it shipped from Shenzhen, China. They must be shipping them directly from their manufacturing plants or at least close to them.
Now if I could only get a shipment notice from my AT&T upgrade order....I'm not worried about it being pre-emptively cancelled because my card has already been charged.
Can anyone that ordered through ATT confirm that their credit card has been charged? I still show "In Progress" as my order status and no charge on my card.
I ordered an upgrade through AT&T, and my card has definitely been charged - it went through on either Wednesday or Thursday last week. I received a notification from my bank.
Anyone know if FedEx will allow the receiver to hold the package at the local station before the first delivery? I won't be home on Thursday...
If you have a tracking number, call Fedex and see. I've had this done successfully in the past, but not always. It depends on if you get a helpful service rep.

with the iPad and UPS delivery, we were allowed to "PRE-SIGN" for the shipment. i left the approved notice on my door and when i got home, my iPad was waiting for me under my door mat.
My "estimated delivery date" is June 23rd by 10:30 am.
This happens with every highly anticipated Apple product launch.
Despite the earlier delivery date estimate, the package will be held and not delivered until the date that Apple has requested.
The same thing happens whenever receiving something via one of the cheaper shipping options via some couriers. They could deliver the package earlier but hold it for a day or two such that it gets delivered on the scheduled date. Basically, the couriers have implemented the ability to hold packages such that they can offer different speed shipping options no matter if the total distance traveled is short. This "scheduled delivery date"capability is also used by Apple for highly anticipated products with a hard release date.
just FYI, my confirmation e-mail from Apple when I ordered late night on the first day said ships by July 2.. however it has been shipped from FedEx, coming the June 23rd (which will hold til 24, I assume like it has before)
I just checked AT&T's toll free order status phone line - they said my items "were on backorder and will be shipped as soon as possible." I don't know if that's their standard line when they don't have any shipping information or if that's truly a reflection.
I was able to get my pre-order in just after 10am PDT and my card has been charged.
But given all that's gone on, I don't think I'm taking anything for granted until the phone actually shows up.
Comments
Your poor, poor souls...stuck on AT&T for another 2 years!
I figure that if Apple opens it up to either Verizon or T-Mobile, the fleeing customers may relieve the network problems to some extent. Win win.

IN OTHER WORDS STOP WORRYING!
i got an email from Apple that mines has shipped and will be delivered by FedEx on the 23.
I can't wait!
Same with mine! It says that it left Fedex's Shenzhen, CN location 4.30 am, June 20 (local time).
