Damn, since when have they already done the first part? the free skate portion is tonight, with the lovely Michelle Kwan in first place. That's the only reason I wanna watch is cause I think Michelle Kwan is beautiful. Asian hotties all the way.

    oh, I'll add my predictions.

    Irena Slutskaya (spelling?) will win.

Kwan will come in a close 2nd.

But I think Sasha Cohen could give the two a run for their money as well

    Aww don't say that applenut!

Michelle deserves it so much and I think this is realistically her last shot. She's old for the sport even if she's only 21 (I think). Lipinski was great but I think maybe Michelle deserved the gold in Nagano. She's probably one of the best skaters ever.

Sasha Cohen has some real firepower and I think she could stun. trouble is I don't think she is going to attempt the quad, which would give her major pts if she executed the jump.

I'm really pulling for Kwan though. I heard she was disappointed with the technical marks Tuesday despite coming in 1st. What time is the free skate?

Sasha Cohen has no reason to attempt a quad. Nobody else can do it, she has no pressure to do it. She is graceful enough on her own...much more so than *ugh* Sarah Hughes.

I hope to JEBUS Slutskaya messes up.

Hahahahaa, omg...Sarah Hughes and Slutskaya should have gotten ugly points deducted. That would have put Sasha and Kwan on the top two pedestals.

wow. you are quite the asshole.

what the hell kind of comment is that? that's just low.

Sarah Hughes was amazing tonight and flawless. Kwan was not. Irena was close.

I still am trying to fully understand what exactly happened but Sarah was by far the best.

Hey, how do yo guys know what happened? It's 9:30 PST and the NBC announcer just said they'd be right back with the figure skating...LIVE! It even says "LIVE" in the corner of the screen!

As the Games go on, I find I'm watching more and more CBC and less and less NBC. Never thought I'd appreciate living close to Canada. Tonight really gets me, though. CBC showed the Men's Super-G live (for real) around 5, the Women's hockey final live right after that, and the figure skating live right after that (perfectly smack in the middle of prime time). Why does NBC feel the need to tape delay all three (rather exciting) events by 2-3 hours? It's just dumb.

NBC (not CNBC and MSNBC which have been great) has really annoyed me with their coverage. They only show the americans and the top 5 or 8 people in an event and they tape delay em all till primetime so they can eat up the ratings. I know they need the ratings but they should at least show some of the events live during the daytime. Much better than watching "The other Half" and a bunch of soap operas followed by Judge Judy

Yeah, the NBC coverage has been the worst I have ever ever seen for the Olympics. Canadian CBC has been rocking. Almost 24/7 live coverage of the Olympics. And if something is taped they tell you.

whoa. I wouln't go that far. NBC's Sydney olympics coverage was by far the worst in my short experience of 94, 98, 2000, and 2002.

This one isn't actually all that bad for the way they are doing it. And probably has the most mass market appeal. It's just people like us who actually want to see the entirity of the events that get left out.

Everyone says the CBC coverage is great but I don't get it. I know some in the US do. How? I have DirecTV and get nearly everything

Oh pfft, applenut, like you calling me an asshole is n't one of the heftier doses of irony on this messageboard. You should have called me an asshole Republican.

They both look like little boys, flexible little boys.

Michelle Kwan has a big honker and Sasha Cohen looks like she builds toys for Santa, but they are both decidedly more attractive to me than the two top placed figure skaters tonight.

I don't care for Kwan's looks at all. My wife thinks she looks good but I can't see it.

I'm sorry I don't live up to your expectations.

I like Kwan and Cohen more than Hughes and Slutskaya, who are both very agonizing to watch artistically. Hughes doesn't know where to look in her routines, and Slutskaya just ham-fists all her moves...like when she pulled he leg up behind her head. Some people have no stage presence. Some people do. People like Steve Jobs and Theo Gray from Wolfram have remarkable stage presence while people like Phil Schiller do not. Hughes and Slutskaya are just like Phil Schiller in that respect. They don't have the art.

They should have been deducted ugly points because their artistry was lacking. Did Slutskaya skate a 5.8 presentation for artistry? Did Hughes? No, they were ugly performances compared to Kwan and Cohen's. Plus both Kwan and Cohen are prettier to me.

    Whatchutalking'bout, Willis?

Scott, well, I have sort of a complex. I've lived with Asian women all my life. I'm pretty sick of them in general.

It's hard for Kwan to win when she's sitting on the ****ing ice.

That's true, but the killer was Slutskaya's second place standing, which sent Kwan from 1st to 3rd. Slutskaya's artistic marks were nearly as high as Kwan's. Slutskaya also didn't skate a perfect technical program. She didn't do any triple-triple combos for example.

Like Hamilton said, it was wide open at the end. It depended on the little things, and I feel Slutskaya should have been deducted for both artistry and technical merit.

Of course, if it were up to me, I would have put Kwan in 1st, Hughes in 2nd, and Cohen in 3rd, but Slutskaya didn't fall...she *almost* fell *twice.* Had she fallen even once, I would have put Cohen ahead of her, because Cohen is dazzling on the ice. Her split jumps and split glides are awesome. Her spins are faster than Kwan's and she is also pretty technical. She's the only skater there that could have done a quad jump.

I do think that Michelle Kwan is ugly (and I'm Asian), but that's irrelevant to me. I was rooting for Sarah Hughes, because she had more "Olympic Spirit". She was very gracious after her short program even though the judges underrated her performance. She just wanted to skate her best, and wasn't focused on winning a medal. As a result, her performance was gutsy and inspiring. On the other hand, Kwan was extremely obsessed with winning the gold medal, and even booed her technical merit scores during the short program. Not very classy if you ask me. Michelle Kwan is a bad role model and needs to grow up. Winning isn't everything.
