Close...too close for some!
Seriously, tho people - lighten up! This is ONE ITEM from what is supposed to be an exceptionally LENGTHY & EVENTFUL keynote. So, judge now? That's (literally) prejudice, which is clearly NOT beyond the rumor sites.
Everybody, remember to breathe - use a paper bag if it helps - and wait for the end of the expo before you let head explode, okay?
Even as it grows on me, it definitely doesn't live up to the hype. I didn't expect anything Jetsons-like, but to me this iMac doesn't live up to Apple using ANY hype. It offers nothing more than they've already offered in the past. The biggest addition would be the superdrive, but that was pre-announced by Steve in a conference call months ago.
Great product or not, I really can't see why Apple would go through 7 days of hype for this. What does it give me that the Cube didn't? A speed bumped processor? Big deal.
Well, if the picture from Time is accurate, I like the new iMac. It looks much more professional and stylish. And, it has a G4.
Now, for the powermacs, I belive they will come with a G5. Now, assuming the rumored G5 specs are fairly accurate and the G5 is released, then this will indeed be a great Macworld.
Imagine having a computer with a processer 3X more powerful than a P4 at the same clockspeed while using less power. We will all be gloating to our peecee weenie friends for quite some time. So far, its looking like this could happen. Keep your fingers crossed...
Two weeks ago, most of you would have been jumping for joy over this machine. Now your acting upset?
I think Apple played everyone. Look at the past week, discussion went from speed bumped PMs to iWalks, Satellite Networks, 2Ghz G6s, and X on Intel. No wonder some people feel let down.
There is no way for any company to deliver on this amount of rumor frenzy, but it was fun as always.
The Stevenote starts in 2 hours. Im nervous that the pro-end wont be adressed enough, but I think the iMac looks good.
i admit that apple took the specs i wanted and put them into a machine which at first blush looks like a desklamp...but seeing as the product isn't even released yet, perhaps you could reserve judgement till then.
you're obviously disappointed. what did you want that's missing? and if you don't know...how is apple supposed to?

Let's hope they can "Put it back in" and wait for it fully develop. Right now it's only got the ASS end and the HEAD done.
I think the new iMac looks awesome. As inconspicuous as a lamp. I would love a computer that looked like a piece of furnature versus another ugly compuer. Apple did a good job IMO.

Put it next to the couch, position the monitor horizontally, and use it for popcorn and drinks. Now that's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BEEEEEEEYOOOOOOOOOND!
Maybe the touch sensitive screen would allow one to just change channels by moving the beer from side to side? (uses infrared)
Well, you either love the design or hate it. How is Apple supposed to know? They should frelling ask! They are too concerned about making everything a big surprise though so they don't. I think this is the big thing for the keynote. Its just 2 hours long like any other Macworld and you know he is going to spend half an hour on iPhoto alone.
I think it's 'Way Beyond the Rumor Sites', none of the Rumor sites predicted an iMac as powerful as this. If you're talking about people posting on the forums then you're bound to be disappointed, I mean some people actually think that Apple should phone them up and ask them their opinion on the design! I think I'll trust Apples design team over anyone on here thank you very much!
Personally, I think it's bloody excellent, it makes me wish i'd waited to buy my Powermac because I could have got myself a G4 iMac and an iBook for the same price, if not less.
It also means that the G5 is either coming today or coming in the summer which isn't far off!
Remind me again why anyone is complaining? oh and of course there's the free software that Apple will be giving away, iPhoto. Real bummer that one, I hate you Apple you're so mean to me, WAAAAH!

The last thing needed is Apple to market research its designs. First of all, it would add time to market. Secondly, run it through enough clinics, and we'll end up with beige boxes.
FWIW, I ran the pix by my industrial/car designer bosses, and it gets a huge thumbs up.

I wonder what the return would have been if they'd done some footwork on the cube? I'd bet they lost a pretty penny with that F-up.
Well, you either love the design or hate it. How is Apple supposed to know?

They don't have to know. They should offer a low end computer that doesn't risk alienating a potential customer base. A new low-end cube could compliment this 'radical' design, or just a lower end PowerMac. Some customers don't want a fancy iMac, or a fruity iMac, or a Flowered iMac, they want something more <gasp> conservative! There's a large customer base in the iMac price range that doesn't want an iMac.
Knowing that we've got the iLamp, iPhoto, and a 14 inch ibook (the first surprise as far as I'm concerned) do we feel that what is being announced is BEYOND the rumor sites?
I'm not convinced. Good machines, nice offers - NOT BEYOND.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!
Just kidding!
People need to relax a bit.
11 hours and 10 minute3s until the keynote.
The countdown thread.
Arggghhhhhhh. Not even CLOSE to way beyond the rumor sites.
