Hi and thank YOU in advance!

My MAcbook Pro dive won;t mount and is corrupt and none of the top utilites will repair the damage.

So I really just need to copy TO A BACKUP DRIVE using a comand line and I found this to copy to copy the folder ("sudo cp -Rp /Users "/Users backup" ), but how do I tell it to copy to the drive named: "rayne's Macbbok Pro Backup"

THANK YOU.

    Use

sudo cp -Rp/Volumes/<name of your hard drive>/Users/<your username>/Volumes/rayne's Macbbok Pro Backup

to take your home directory over.

If you want to take yourself and other users to your backup then use

sudo cp -Rp/Volumes/<name of your hard drive>/Users/Volumes/rayne's Macbbok Pro Backup

    cheers

Silly question, but what makes you think you'll be able to access the drive from a Terminal session when it cannot be "fixed" with "the top utilities"?

The Terminal gives you shell access to OS X. It cannot perform magic.

I wondered the same, although booting in from an external op may have a chance if the drive can be seen.

I also wonder if op has tried booting from Disk Warrior and seeing if it can repair the damage.

dunno - too many unknowns ...
