Death by Music

As a consequence o' the pursuit o' some modest financial comfort I hae been travelling tae work in a vehicle wi' four other wastrels and vagabonds; much like mysel' only a wee bit younger. Noo I regret tae say that during the journey they have been playing a perticularly mindless and depressing form o' noise (it comes on those shiny cd thingies) called 'dance music'. I am no' sure if this is a purely British malaise or no', but it consists o' electronic noises, chimes, loud beats and the same phrase wailed ower and ower again like a synthesised soul in the flames o' perpetual accoustic torment. Every track sounds the same.

I would jist like tae warn everybody frae a' the nations here assembled tae beware o' this nihilistic dross which inculcates itsel' upon the minds o' oor youth tae such an extent that they can nae longer appreciate true music, a la The Mighty Beatles, Their Rocking and Rolling Stonely Lordships, The All-Surpassing 500-miling Proclaimer Brothers, Buddy Grecko and His Crickets and such. They even cast aspersions upon that Great High Senator o' Rocking Congress - Sir Elvis Presley, OBE - when I tried tae reason wi' them.

Beware lest this noisome bog o' clinging dross sucks the very souls o' your nation's lads and lassies doon intae the eching chambers o' Hades too.

It's frightening when British youth can't appreciate Led Zeppelin or the Pied Piper of Rock and Roll, Jethro Tull.

I feel for you, MacO, even the administrator of our fair message board only listens to that kind of thing...

    What's this world coming to?

    Mmm. Eurotrash.

A spicy blend of 5 year old American semi-hit pop and a lot of pasty dutch kids spinning records around.

Jonathan is just in a phase. He'll grow out of it soon enough. . . .

I have to deal with somethng similar. I go to a gym to workout, and they always have the same station on. The music is always the same few songs over and over , w/ everyonce in awhile a new one thrown in. It seems the music is supposed to be appropriate to wieght lifting cause its got loud head bangy non-lyrical passages...

but what defines the music more than anything is this super self-indulgent self hatred and nihilism - - - it 's so unimaginative, it seems calculated by some corporate panel for music industry, with the guiding principle of: "get them real depressed and angry about nothing, get them clenching their fists and grinding their teeth and feeling bad, they'll feel like they have a purpose and their sure to buy it"

Its truth that it does have energy so people think its good to work out to, but the energy is so downward moving that it leaves me exhausted, depressed and filled with bile . ..oh woe is me... just like the music says..

. gimme something that's about joy...some jangly guitar youthfull optimism!!!

Jamie! I am well thankye and I trust you also are frothing ower wi' the joys o' life.

Alas, but I missed Her Royal Majesty yesterday. I was digging a water mains trench in Paisley (a toon nae entirely unfamiliar tae your guid sel') and my heid must hae been doon when her panoply o' pomp pageantry sailed past. Never mind - I'm due up at Braemar again soon for a wee bit painting and I'll likely catch her at The Games or at hame in Balmoral.

Now - as tae this musical business, I am greatly heartened tae find so mony other denizens o' discernment and taste in this assembly. I am however a wee bit shocked tae realise that somebody o' administrative degree should harbour such a darkness in their soul as tae burn wi' unbridled lust and passion for 'dance' music. Next will be the slow slide intae 'rap' and final degradation.

But tak' heart a' you Scandinavians, French, Belgians, Germans, Irish and others (especially Estonians) for tomorrow (Saturday) the simmering volcano o' true, creative pop will erupt in a mighty pent-up explosion o' groovetabulous proportions at 2000 (BST) when the Eurovision Song Contest is unleashed ontae oor tellies.

    [quote]Death by Music

The title of this thread makes no sense Mac! What you're describing hasn't anything to do with music. Sure it comes out of some sort of stereo equipments but that's about it. And canabis is illegal
