Heck, I figure I'll get mine when the iPhone 5 is about to come out and everyone is worried about something else. No doubt, long before then you can just walk in, swipe a card, and leave with your iPad 2. While I understand why some would want to be first with this thing (and more power to them), the iPad 2 is an impulse buy for me and I don't *have* to have it anytime soon.
OTOH, when I finally decide to plunk down my money, I want it at *that* instant. Waiting a couple weeks, even with the attitude I've got, doesn't work for me (I did say it was an impulse thing). In the meantime, I'd still like to upgrade my 4-year-old MBP to one of the newer models. Alas, the unit I'm looking at is between $3,000 and $4,000, so that might get pushed off for a while; nevertheless, it has priority over an iPad 2 because I actually *need* the MBP for work-related activities (and the DVD burner on my old MBP no longer burns; thank goodness they've kept the optical drive in the new MBPs as that's something I still use).
Looking forward to the day when iPad 2 units ship the day they are ordered. That will be about the time I'll get one.
... It is annoying to see hundreds, if not thousands, of iPad 2s on ebay and craigslist though for 200+ more then the selling price. ..
Ah, but a lot of the time if you "buy" one of these, what you have bought is just a place in another queue and the person "selling" it is just putting your name on a piece of paper with the other dumbasses that don't want to wait.
Also, a big part of the delay is the shipping time which is often the same whether it's from some guy on craigslist as it is from Apple.
Are people really stupid enough to buy an Ipad 2 from Craig's List for $200 more when they can just wait? Why pay $200 more to wait? Might as well get it from a reputable source Apple!

I wouldn't pay those scumbags $1.00 more. It's a matter of principle, as far as I'm concerned.
got 16GB white wifi (the one i was looking for) today from westborough (MA) target store. no line, just walked in and after me still one left in their stock. yesterday missed the last one in framingham target store in front of me. the new target store in marlborough east got some yesterday ? i was too late. looks like they are mostly getting 5 white wifi 16gb in a single fedex shipment ? at least in target stores near boston area. this tracking system really works:
? also the best time is around noon to check availability. At least in Boston, it is still tough to get one from apple store unless you are ready to stand in the line very early. going to cancel my online order in a moment (expected shipping date Apr 11).
So I was at the top of the list since they started taking phone orders @ 5pm ET Friday March 11 for this model since launch day and got it today. 13 days from launch is not bad. Moving my unlimited data grandfathered account was easy peezy. Called AT&T 611 free on my Phone, gave 'em a couple of numbers turned it off and on in 20 seconds and it's ON. Just had a big power outage here in Santa Cruz and my iPad 2 keeps on trucking very fastly. Saved $87 in sales tax including the digital AV HDMI adapter they expect to get some of tomorrow.
I walked into a Target yesterday and bought the 32 GB, Wifi, Black that I was looking for.
Of course, I have a script that checks the inventory of the 10 closet Targets and tells me which ones have stock of which iPads. On average, they are "Out of Stock" everywhere, but I can see when they get a delivery. (I don't actually see it enter their system, but the status of a model at a store goes from "Out of Stock" or "Available" between two successive runs of the script).
I started using it two days ago and would check a few times throughout the day. When a nearer store went from "Out of Stock" to "Available" on the model I was looking for, I hopped in the car and picked it up.
Just got a shipment of 20 iPad2's a few hours ago - I got 32 and 64 GB ATT models (white) - not sure what else was left, but looked to be about 10-15 left in the case...
I ordered at 7 AM PST on 3/11. Invoice said my white 32 would ship on April 1st. Today I got an email that it just shipped and is due March 31st, a week ahead of schedule:
Hmm mine still says the same thing. They went ahead and charged my CC on the 23rd though, which I find kinda odd. They charged it for the cover and extra power adapter right away but also shipped them immediately. Maybe the order status just hasn't updated yet and the iPad 2s are shipping soon?

Hmmmmmm my order was "Mar 11, 2011 at 06:41 AM PDT" for a 64GB 3G AT&T white and it still says 4/01 and no email
They're definitely cranking them out now. On my way out yesterday morning, I decided to pickup my morning Starbucks fix from the mall. And since I'm at the mall, I might as well swing by the Apple store.
I got there about 8:50. A few of the scalpers whom I saw last week were there again, as well as another guy that missed out with me; he told me straight away go inside and get my ticket. Scored! They had every model available. I went with the white 32gb wifi. It's a beauty! It even makes the nice solid muted thud sound when I close the smart cover, just like closing the lid on a MacBook Pro.

Apple, like many other online retailers (Amazon, etc.), will break up orders with multiple items and charge you for the items they can ship immediately. Since you don't know this already, I assume you are a novice online shopper.
There is nothing odd for them to charge you for the products they shipped. When your iPad is imminently ready to ship, Apple will process the charge. They have no interest in charging much more than a day or two before they ship, due to thorny customer service issues that can quickly arise.
Existing online orders from Apple are getting updated now.
Mine just got moved up and it is shipping one whole day earlier!
Great news!
Mine is still due to be shipped Apr 1, arriving Apr 6.
Funny thing is my cover shipped on schedule on Mar 18 and was scheduled to arrive today ( Mar 24). However, looking at the FedEx tracking it has been sitting in Memphis TN for a couple of days with a scheduled arrival now not even listed! I've never seen an arrival date disappear from a waybill before. I sure would like to get some practice in folding and unfolding that cute cover before my real toy arrives!
Serious question: Has anybody used a 3rd party case over the iPad2 + smart cover? Which ones seem to work?

The torture of waiting is not worth it

20 - 25 days
That's only for 16GB and 32GB, though. They don't even show the 64GB.
That is what mine said (April 1 ship date). I ordered at 5:30 am Pacific time.
It shipped yesterday. On its way now.
