Faster G4's soon

Could Apple be using the next couple of months to stockpile faster G4's. If the imac is a hit apple will probably order more G4 processors in the next month than ever went into all the towers sold. This higher production rate will yeild more high MHz G4's.

Other scenario, Apple agreed to switch the imac to G4 early to help out Motorolla and get the G5 out the door faster. Right now G4s are not selling fast and IBM makes the G3s.

Either way Motorolla has got to be happy. I am sure apple has orders for at least a few hundred thousand G4s and their semiconductor division can sure use the cash right about now.

Definitely around the corner. But they need a Break-Through in performance. The Wintel World has had a 400 Mhz Bus for over two years.Apple has to pry open its Lab and give it up.To put out the maximum they possibly can in the future powermac.

Plus, software that can take advantage of the processing power.Smarter software...as well. Not just a PhotoShop plug-in.Apple and Motorola are

leading edge high-tech,multi-billion dollar companies. They can do it...they will do it.

Companies with multi-dollars in bank doesn't mean they can do anything they want. Especially to the moronic corporation like Motorola

Okay.....take a look at Microsoft. It's the biggest and richest. Are their products cutting edge? Hardly <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

Let's face it, when your consumer line is as fast as your professional line (800MHz), something's gotta be comming down the pipe mighty soon ... hopefully, Apple decided to not bother with Apollo's which is why there was no speed bump announcement at MW, and instead choose to head straight for the G5's ... but they wouldn't be ready in 30 days, so they didn't mention them.

Let's hope this is the case, 'cause @867MHz Apple's looking pretty stupid.

I think as individual users we can think ahead and have patience, but a business that relies on Macs has no reason to stink with Apple right now. Personally I have no interest in switching platforms, but Photoshop users do and should if time is money to them. As a consumer I have a choice. A business doesn't have that sort of flexibility. As much as I hate to say it, Apple deserves a loss of market share considering the position they've put their customer base in. It's unfortunate but true. Updating their pro machines every six months isn't good enough. Even if 2 GHZ G5s aren't available, there are other technologies they could be using to help the situation.
