Surf's Up...

...a lot now in Hollywood. Lilo and Stitch and the Blue Crush surfer girls flick...



But the one I'm waiting for is <a href="http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/step_into_liquid.html"; target="_blank">"Step Into Liquid"</a> from the producers of "Endless Summer I&II". An article in Vanity Fair also writes about the "Tow Surfers", surfers who ride the largest waves anywhere. Some as big as 80 feet...in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! They use Jet Skis to tow them up to speeds of 30-40 mph and then surf these giants at speeds of 60-70 mph!

Not a surfer myself, just giving props to the men and women who provide some amazing thrills in this sport/lifestyle.

    Surfing is a great sport,I recommend it,it's even more fun in real life than in the movies-tow-in surfing is insane-I've never tried that-there's something known as the Neptune project where some surfers are planning to ride a 100 foot wave,there's a reef off the coast of California that supposedly supports waves of that size,the people involved are simply waiting for a swell of sufficient size.As far as here is concerned there should be a swell in the next couple of days (not big,but rideable) I plan to hit it when it shows.

    Cool. I haven't surfed myself. I've wakeboarded and on the beach, body surf. I love the beach and swimming. I just don't have the time or money in it anymore. I hope to head down the shore for a weekend or more this Summer.



    I designed some t-shirts for a dude who is a surfer. He's gone around the world "looking for that perfect wave". He was quite a character. In some ways I think it's the lifestyle that appeals to some. Waking up, jumping out of the van with your board and surf all day...and chicks, too.



    In that Vanity Fair article it mentions at the end about that "Neptune Project". Supposedly one of the surfers (Flea) in the article did ride a 100 foot wave...only thing is that no one recorded or photographed it. Bummer... <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

    This is "Flea", but not on the 100 ft. wave. Still...that is a big mofo... :eek:

    Yeah,that's a huge wave,Flea is one of the best big wave surfers,I hadn't heard about the 100 foot wave yet,I'll have to check that article out.

    OK I've seen Blue Crush-a less than great movie.There was some good surf footage,most of it shot from in the water,it captures the feel of taking off and getting nailed by a wave extremely well,but it had the worst editing I have ever seen in my life,they actually reused a lot of footage,over and over again,it was like a bad cartoon in that respect.Early in the movie,they go down to the beach to check the surf and they show a water shot,then later in the movie,supposedly 7 days later,they reuse the same shot-the waves never look the same on two seperate days,never.Another thing was that every time Kate Scarrit was paddling back into the lineup,they used the same sequence every time.In other parts they showed people making waves that had already closed out-an impossibility.I hope to see Step into Liquid-the two Endless summer movies are worth seeing.Anyway tomorrow surf's up.
