New "Star Trek" movie trailer...

Called "Nemesis"? I don't know. Not a fan, but some of you might be:

<a href="http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/star_trek_nemesis/"; target="_blank">http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/star_trek_nemesis/;

Is it just me, or did it have quite a Lucas/Episode 1 look/feel about it? The sets, the FX and some of the dialog sounded quite a bit like some of the stuff in "The Phantom Menace". Just had a different look about it than the other "Star Trek" movies.

The "wise course of action" snippet (all this serious, "ooh, scary..." dialog being spoken), and how scenes were shown, then faded to black and another scene faded in was A LOT like I remember the original teaser/trailer for "Menace" appearing.

At the very beginning of the trailer, that big circular city: quite Naboo-esque, or like something from Star Wars.

I posted a link to the Trekkies Auction on EBay and got no replies...guess Star Trek has finally died...

Actually, that trailer looks promising though...

The trailer looks kinds Star Wars-esque but the movie looks like it has a darker feel to it than Star Wars. Looks like there's more action than in previous Star Trek movies, and it could be one of the better Trek movies ever.

The word on this new movie is that it has a much higher level of production value than the prior ones. It's gonna be a good one, and maybe the last if it isn't commercially successful.

This will be the last star trek movie featuring the "Next Generation" Crew. Any future Star Trek movies rely on the popularity of future TV series.

Having just seen the latest Star Wars movie, which was yet another animation-fest, relying on all- action, no plot, horrendous continuity anomalies and appalling "acting", (Natalie Portman was a joke!)... I really look forward to the upcoming TNG Star Trek offering. The TNG characters are well developed, and (specially) Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner seem to have more acting talent in their big toes than the entire cast of "Attack of the Clones", although the direction of "Clones" was so oriented to showing off special effects and flash-bang-wallop action scenes that the human cast didn't have much of a chance to shine.

Hehehe. Much agreed. The Matrix just rolled the Phantom Menace at the Oscars (Matrix went 4-0 against PM in the FX Oscars). I'm expecting either The Two Towers or some other FX laden movie to beat out AOTC in next year's FX Oscars as well.

And the Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions movies come out next year. Woohoo! Not to mention I have an affinity for Cadillac's new sheet metal designs.

Yup. Two of the action sequences in AOTC the beginning aerocar chase and the scene in the robot assembly was just screaming AOTC video game to me.

The STTNG cast also has a lot of chemistry while the current SW almost has none. Too bad succeeding Star Trek series didn't have it for me. TNG did luck out in getting Brent Spiner and Patrick Stewart though.

Looks like some great work in putting this together - that sleek looking black and silver shuttlecraft (if that's what it is) that hovers in that bay before blowing the doors off... damn that looks cool!

I agree, seems to have a darker, more sinister look to it than previous movies. Might actually be good!

What other Star Trek shows could they make movies from? Deep Space Nine? Voyager?

I mean, people were getting sick of the original Shatner/Nimoy crew, for crying out loud. And it looks as though the next-most-popular gang of Stewart/Spiner/Frakes/Burton is down to its last movie.

Is there any market whatsoever to watch the cast of the other two Star Trek shows in a two hour movie? I can't imagine. They'd probably tank REALLY big.

So this must signal the end of the whole Star Trek franchise, right? Those other two shows can't be THAT popular and movie-spawning, can they?

Actually, if someone at Paramount wanted to get cute, they could do to Star Trek what "The Phantom Menace" did to "Star Wars".

Go BACK in time, and show Kirk as a young cadet or whatever, and show Spock as a younger Vulcan. You could have several running threads taking place over several years, culminating with everyone coming together for their first mission aboard the Enterprise.

In a weird way, it would be cool to see a modern movie (with modern FX) tackle that particular Star Trek era. Have the end shot being the entire cast (new, younger actors, of course, but strongly resembling younger versions of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc. in their yellow, red and blue silly shirts and all) all on the bridge of the Enterprise as it pulls out for it's first "five year mission".

"Star Trek: In the Beginning", rated PG...coming to a theater near you!

maybe I'm the only one who liked AOTC. . . anyway, I like Trek too, and this one is supposed to be good.

Trek has always employed shakespearean actors, so the trek/ feel is what was copied by Lucas. Trek was there first.

As for future trek movies, I never really got into the series, but I always liked the movies. If Trek becomes a movie-only production, like Bond, I think that would actually work out better.

Exactly: look at Star Wars: Episodes 1 and 2. If the actual movies were 1/8th as exciting and breathtaking as the trailers were, people wouldn't be so bent out of shape about the franchise!

I want to see a Voyager film detailing what happend after they returned home. The series was left kind of hanging in that respect.

BTW, Janeway will be in Nemesis, giving Picard his orders, IIRC.

I felt the SFX in the two last Star Wars movies were wasted on uninteresting, uncomplicated ships. All the smoothness and shinyness vs something utilitarian or designed to actually work. The one exception was the Jedi fighter.

While the Star Trek SFX probably isn't pushing as many polygons, it looks better.

Also, Through 9 movies, Star Trek has been pretty consistent about having even numbered movies being very good and odd numbered movies being horrible. Nemesis is #10.

DS9 started off terrible, but got better at the end. and i dont see how they can make a whole movie w/ a space station...

voyager was just horrendous. what a terrible series...

the new Enterprise series seems alright, although i havent really payed enuff attention to it to make a decision.

it seems like the original and TNG were the best suited to be successful in movies. the chemistry was great, and everything just seemed to flow.

also, i couldnt really tell who the villains are in this new movie. i was under the impression that the romulans were gonna play a big part...

According to some the Trek movies always faired well at the box office on even number movies..odd number movies (mostly Shatner Directed) did not doo so well with the trek fans. Hopefully Nemesis (10) will be a kick ass action movie....I think the best trek flick has to be The Wrath of Kahn, that butt clinching , grimacing yell of Kaaahhhhnnnn by kirk sticks with you like taffy

I love Star Trek, but I think like all good things, it will need a long break for a while after this movie. Maybe they'll be able to resurrect the concept in 10-15 years, and find a new generation of audience they don't have right now.

Face it, "Trekkies" as we know them are kind of dying off. They need to refresh the concept with a new crowd.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Please no! Star Trek has class (for those who care), and based on facts. A lot of effort goes into a Star Trek episode. I do hope to see the Voyager crew in this movie, and I hope there will be another Voyager-based movie in the future. However, Janeway giving orders to Picard?!?! That's absurd. Your joking, right?

I dunno, I get tired of the whole 'Star Trek' thing.... Why not rebrand the show?

Jeez, relax! I didn't say "**** up and mangle the franchise" like Star Wars. Don't copy the approach THAT closely!

I said take the idea of going back to tell the story of how the original crew came to be. A prequel to the original series, if you will.

And as long as Lucas doesn't write or direct it, it'll probably come out okay.
