Damn ultra stiff, that thing must be like a metal rod! You must kill the ball if you need ultra stiff.

Do you think that changing my shaft with a grafoloy stiff one may be good. Will i loose some range comperative to my regular flex shaft ?

I will be in holliday in august, near the Pays Basque country, the countrie of Golf in France, there is some little proshop that will be able to customize my club (i like the head of my club indeed). My drive is my biggest problem, i loose an average six to eight points in stableford per competition : too much.

I use Regular flex graphite shafts on all of my clubs. So far this summer, I have broken the shafts on my 5-iron, my 7-iron and my 5-wood. Does this mean I should switch to stiff flex shafts? If so, I heard they are less forgiving, is that really true? Will I get more distance out of my clubs if I have stiff flex? I'm sure most of you here in this thread know the answers so I'd appreciate the help.

It depends of the speed of your swing, the faster he is , the more stiff you have to own.

i read that if you drive farther than 250-260 yards you should have stiff (but they don't say if it was the range of the flying ball or the total range of the ball)

It depends also of the shaft of the club, i would take personally a stiff shaft if it was a graphit one but would take a regular one if it was an iron one. With a iron 8 my average distance (in fly ) is 140 meter (155 yards approximatively).

powerdoc- Switching from a regular flex to a stiff flex will probably mean you lose about 5 yards. However, if the regular flex shaft you're playing seems too flexible for you, what you lose in distance will be made up in accuracy with a stiffer shaft. I would take a lot more fairways as opposed to a couple more yards.

G4Dude-Have your swing speed measured for both a driver and 5-iron, and then fit the shaft accordingly. I have a clubmaking catalog that has all the latest and greatest shafts in it, and they are going to vary a bit. Depending on where you broke the club it might be right that the shafts are too weak. When you have a weaker shaft its gonna bend more on your back swing, and with with higher swing speeds you might get more distance but you're gonna have more problems controlling the ball. A stiffer shaft is gonna give you a lot more control, and consequently more fairways hit.

That's interesting about 250-260 needing a stiff shaft. I've always felt that I don't generate enough clubhead speed to hit stiff flex shafts, however I could hit the ball 250 with my mom's Spalding driver (it's a mens driver btw). I think maybe I could take a stiff in my driver, but regular in the irons. I might try and get my swing speed measured.

I'm also looking to get some forged irons, but blades? Hmm...I'm not sure I can play blades. I have heard you have to be Davis Love to play blades, and I've heard you haven't.

P.S. Japan is where its at for golf equipment. I've seen the Bridgestone irons and drivers....OHHHHH BOOYYYYY. Sweet. Also the Srixon I-201 irons rule.

My 7-iron broke right in the middle of the shaft which I thought was kind of weird. But the other two clubs broke right at where the clubhead meets the shaft. I hit about 230 with my 3-wood but I don't take a full swing with any of my clubs (long story). So does it sound to anyone that I REALLY SHOULD switch to stiff shafts?

Maybe, but the name doesn't ring a bell. I don't play much golf, and when I do, it's more of a wilderness expedition than a good golf game, so I tend to stick to parts I know so I don't get lost in the woods.

    Equipment list:

My Clubs are made of metal. I'm not quite sure of the manufacturer, but it's not a big name. I bought the set for 600 bucks back in 97 or so, and they feel pretty good, as far as I can tell. My balls are orange so I can spot them in the thick grass. My favorite club is the three iron, because It can cut through the grass AND send the ball like 215 yards. It's also the only club I hit well every time.

Sigh. . . This makes me want to go out for some Hack-Time Golf (tm)

And in response to being rich: My parents have some money, but they're puritans about it. I'm young and poor, and when I have it I flaunt it. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Then I guess you wouldn't be interested in any Viagra.

Sorry, it had to be said.

Related, I hit the ball pretty far too, but I don't know what the flex is. . . . It doesn't seem very wobbly. . . . I really unload on that damn ball, bring the club head way back. It's a fun way to get rid of agression. I don't exactly know how far I can hit it, but I can hit the trees in the back of the driving range. That's really fun to do, especially when there are guys working back there. Of course, since I was a tennis and baseball player first, slice is usually a problem. . . I guarantee you've never seen a ball jerk right so hard as when it comes off my club.
