Went to the Boston TOOL Show...
... and I was impressed. Admittedly, I've never been into the band. I'd always thought they were really heavy shock rock type crap... so my buddy darian flew into town from Sacramento for the weekend, and he bought me a ticket to the show. Now, I'm not one to turn down something free...
I had my doubts. He said it would be a life changing experience, blah, blah, blah.
The visuals were amazing, the performance was great, and the music... while it was loud (You know you're getting old when you say something like that), I actually found most of it rather beautiful. The combination of some of the guitar chords and Maynard's voice... wow. I wish I had discovered these guys sooner.
After the show when I got home... got a big cup of coffee and filled up half a sketchbook with inspirations from the show. It's actually inspired some projects for this fall. Anyhow, I highly recommend the show to anyone... even if you don't think you like TOOL, damn, it is worth it...

I'm being TOTALLY serious when I say this: when I saw your thread, I honestly thought you were talking about a big hardware/tool convention or trade show in Boston.
The band Tool never even crossed my mind.
I clicked on the thread to read it, just to see if you were going to talk about some cool new power tools you saw.
I have tickets for the 8/31 show in Cincinnati or however you spell it. Will be my 2nd show. Can't wait! Glad you liked it.
Do you happen to know the songs they played?
You've never been owned more in your life than you are by TOOL.
"This ground is not the rock I thought it to be."
That's the biggest misconception about TOOL.. They aren't out to worship Satan.
They're music is actually a beautiful juxtaposition of uplifting lyrics and heavy music/dark imagery..
Good example of this is Parabola:
"Choosing to be here in...
This body, this body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone.
This body, this body holding me. We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion."
"Recognize this as a Holy gift and celebrate this chance to be.. alive and breathing."

You're lucky that you had the chance to see them. Seeing them would be a highlight of my life (like Pearl Jam in 2000 yea!)
I hope they stop in Calgary on the second leg of their tour..
Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole,
Defeated, I concede and
Move closer
I may find comfort here
I may find peace within the emptiness
How pitiful
It's calling me...
And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping
The moon tells me a secret - my confidant
As full and bright as I am
This light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me
Its source is bright and endless
She resuscitates the hopeless
Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting
And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt
Don't wanna be down here feeding my narcissism.
I must crucify the ego before it's far too late
I pray the light lifts me out
Before I pine away.
So crucify the ego, before it's far too late
To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical,
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.
Just let the light touch you
And let the words spill through
And let them pass right through
Bringing out our hope and reason ...
before we pine away.

Me too. And I was hoping he'd post a pic of the tool time girls.
