Android phone screen sizes seem to be getting larger and larger. Where does it end? I see that they even have some phones which are over 5" now.
Are Android users trying to compensate for something? Such as in other certain areas in which they are perhaps lacking in?
I'm not sure what the perfect or ideal size for a phone is, but some of those Android phones are just too big and seem like a hassle to carry around in a pocket and to use with one hand. I think that it would be cool if Apple came out with an iPhone nano.
Haven't you read the news?! Experts at Display Strategy Analytics agree 2:1 they like lower pixel density AMOLED displays over S-IPS high pixel density displays with more pixels per square inch, because people like fuzzier displays.
I noticed they didn't highlight their CPU/GPU SoC solution.
They know the A5 stomps it all over the field of computing.
Wow! Removable battery! //in 2011 we are still highlighting this?
They only highlighted the Front Camer, not the back //hint, our's sucks compared to the iPhone 4S
Use it as a Remote to your HDTV!! // Most folks using the Apple Ecosystem use theirs with their AppleTV connected to their HDTV and the iTunes Video Store the Samsung doesn't have
Gingerbread? Seriously? // I stopped taking it serious at this point
The microSD is truly sad.
T-Mobile?
I read this as a sense of desperation. With the iPhone 4S hitting 100 carriers and exploding in China, Samsung has crapped itself severely.
P.S. How come no one is talking about the iPod Touch getting the RETINA DISPLAY? Talk about a dream targeting the iPod Touch, iPhone 4+ and obviously the upcoming iPad 3 with Retina level quality displays.
Having 960 x 640 as the baseline for application development is a big improvement.
All good points, I totally agree with you, except the iPod Touch already had the retina display.

ROFL! Are you really equating smartphone screen size with penile inadequacy?
The lengths some of you lot will go to to defend the 3.5 inch screen on the iPhone is laughable.
Now that it looks like the iPhone 4S has the underdog status in light of the new "sleeker" models of Android devices that will soon flood the market, the question is will one or two Android device/s finally best the iPhone as the most popular smartphone on the planet? If not, then this will obviosuly be a very huge psychological win for Apple.
Oh wait..the antiquated iPhone 4 (yes the grampa iPHONE 4) is still outselling every newer model Android device on Verizon and ATT.
Dont forget the iPhone 3GS was the 2nd best selling smart phone in the US at last report. So I wonder if the next report will be.

Havent you heard? There is a solution to this. There is a huge market out there for man pursues which are perfect for carrying these 5" devices.

Really? Is that what they do?
I wouldn't be caught dead walking around with a "man pursue". That sounds rather pathetic and it's also quite <insert whichever word you believe that I was thinking about>.
In that case, I'd rather just throw my huge, 9.7 heavenly inches of my far superior iPad 2 into a little bag or napsack and carry that along with a normal phone, instead of a ridiculously larged sized phone which can't really be used for anything useful, due to it's small size, even though it's large sized for a phone.

we worked so hard to get pocketable phones.. we went from the SHOE sized phones of the 80s to tiny phones like the Razr.. now we are going backwards again? wtf? change for the sake of change???
we got an iPhone at 3.5"... no we cant compete on this size because Apple has bought off all the supply of good 3.5 screens... we need to go bigger.. towards 5"
we got an iPad at 10".. no we cant compete on this size because Apple has bought off all the supply of good 10 screens, we need to go smaller.. towards 7"
make up your damn mind. Or better yet just split the difference by 1" in each direction and make a 6" device so you can only make a single model. Or.. perhaps in a brilliant marketing move you can simply swap the names around.. You can call the Galaxy S III a "Tablet" and Galaxy Tab 7 a "Smart Phone"
Genius... You say? Yes, just saved you millions dollars on development effort on growing the phone screen size and shrinking the tablet. no need to thank me.. just send money.

Phones like the SGSII are still pocketable.
SGSII
125.3 x 66.1 x 8.49mm
iPhone 4/4s:
115.2 x 58.7 x 9.3mm
Difference:
L: 10.1mm larger
W: 7.4mm larger
0.81mm smaller
If that difference really does stop these large phones from being pocketable, I'd invest in clothes that actually fit.
Something that many may underestimate is the Airplay. Basically your iPhone or iPod Touch is the game console for your HDTV. It is nice how a AppleTV is not required. Though I wonder how you'd play multi-player games with or without one. Look out MS, Sony, and Nintendo - iOS is upon you.
Not sure what you mean saying an AppleTV isn't needed. Airplay uses the Apple TV2 to send the signal to your HDTV.
And Samsung or any android phone still somehow has a lower resolution screen.
My thoughts exactly. The galaxy is only 800x480 pixels. "58% more surface area" is something I would consider a negative feature of a display if the pixel density is not the same.
It's like Nintendo touting the DSi XL's larger screen when it ended up just being a low resolution version of the existing model.
What an appallingly worded claim "the thinest design with the fastest speed" - it is so unclear that it could mean so many things - as well as being close to specious when examined ... any phone which is the "fastest" on any given network will automatically be the thinnest unless there are multiple phones claiming the title of "fastest". If there is one phone which is "fastest" then it could be a fat, heavy brick phone and it will still be the "thinnest" of the "fastest" phones because it is only competing with itself for the title of "thinnest" !!

Lets break it down shall we:
- Screen resolution - iPhone should win here.
- Videocapture: 1080p High profile is better because?
- Dedicated outer camera button: S2 has none, iPhone does, yet its a tie?
- Syncing: iTunes syncing isn't required anymore. There is iCloud. And if you want iTunes, it can be done wirelessly, even backing up.
- Use of smartphone as HDTV remote control: Samsung's best feature
There are tons of remote controls for iOS.
- OS: Of course Samsung prefers "Latest version of Gingerbread" over iOS5 and forgetting that iOS devices also get the latest version of iOS5

And finally, Price/memory: Samsung touts external card support up to 32GB, while ignoring that iPhone can get iPhone4S gets up to 64GB."(no memory limitations)" ... uhm yes you do. SII does not support SDXC and 32GB is not bigger than 64GB. Unless you want to play swap cards.

Not for long. The Google Nexus Prime is due very soon and will have a 4.5" 1280x720 screen.

if it was about HW, Nokia would still be king.
Bulls**t!
Have you seen all the issues Nokia have been having with substandard amoled displays they got from Samsung?
Obviously you haven't been to their user forums.

I rock a shuffle and the length I would go to is exactly 7 1/2 inches.
