i saw it for the first time friday, and honestly i dont know what all the hype is about. yes, it was good and been described as "cute" by many of my friends. but...thats about it. it wasnt smart like Shrek. no adultish humor AT ALL. everything could be understood by young children. most disney movies have a few jokes that can be appreciated by older viewers, but this one was purely elementary school level. no clever jokes. no hidden innuendos. Shrek kicks the cr*p out of this thing...

Shrek was shit. it was a horrible movie that used cheap gags. it was the something about mary of animation and it was aimed at children.
cut the bullshit. Monsters Inc and everything else Pixar has done is far ahead of Shrek when it comes to quality and writing.
Shrek took the easy route and unfortunately the majority of america are dumb assholes who enjoy that bullshit.
You know, one of the great things about the Marx bros. films was that it could be understood on one level for children and on another for adults. Granted, the toy story movies achieved a greater balance in this regard, but Monsters, inc is still a good movie.
I've seen both the DVD and theatre versions of Shrek and Monsters, Inc. I can say that Monsters, Inc is the more well rounded and higher quality film.
I like shrek you bum. I also just bought monsters inc. I like it too. I really like road to el dorado.

hey, it's just my very honest and very blunt opinion. you're welcome to yours of course
btw, mike's new car has some pretty CG animation. wow. the reflections and everything. gorgeous. when they walk out the door of the house I was amazed at how good it looked

give me ONE quote out of monsters, inc that a 5 year old wouldnt get. there was nothing clever about it. of course, there were some really good lines and scenes, but nothing really clever...
if you're saying Shrek was mindless, i find it quite amusing that u say mosters, inc has some sort of thought behind it. me and my friend picked out the entire plot and ending about 10 minutes into the movie.
oh, and im not talking at all about quality of animation. thats something i think monsters, inc did great in. but hell, special effects get really old really fast if the storyline can't back it up...
Well, I finally sat and watched Monsters, Inc tonight. While the 3D effects were impressive, I too found the story and humor a litle bit lacking. It just seemed, I don't know, bland.
Everyone here is talking about how great these animated movies are, but how many of you have seen Spirited Away yet? If you haven't then you should. =P
Shrek was a boring, obnoxiouse piece of garbage!!!!
Monsters inc. had much to say for it, shrek nothing.
Monsters inc's premise was imaginative . . . not merely some damsel in 'distress and troll caracature' type story. And when it comes to immersive stories imaginative is THE standard!!!!!!
Also, Monster's Inc [MI] had a great series of self-reflexive shorts and outtakes.... this adds a lot to the overall experience.... making it seem like more than just a movie with a story, but rather, like a whole world that extends beyond the story line.
it was far far far better than Shrek . . . . but I don't want to waste preciouse time elaborating all the reasons . . .
besides how can you not get immediately and painfully tired of Eddie Murphies non stop yammering? . . . . none of which was remotely funny . . . merely grating . . .
I enjoyed it. I'll pipe in that it was much better than Shrek. Steve Buscemi is a nutjob actor of the highest degree. That dude rocks. And the blends Pixar did with his lizard character were amazing. The door chase was a visual delight.
I was disappointed in Monsters, Inc. because it did very little to advance the genre. I mean, I'm sure there are a bunch of great technical improvements over the stuff used for Toy Story/Toy Story 2, but there was nothing that really defined Monsters, Inc. as anything new.
Little Boo was very cute though, and well animated.
I much preferred Ice Age, and its stylized approach.
actually.. monsters inc made me think on a friend who works for a private tv.. that place looks ecactly as monsters inc.. i recognized his boss..

i loved shrek. personally, i found it much smarter than monsters, inc. yes, it was about an ogre w/ a princess, blah blah blah. but thats just the point. it was a satire, making fun of all the old disney movies and fairy tales. is that why u people didnt like it?? cause it was making fun at disney? and it had humor that adults could understand and relate too. monsters, inc was too simple and kiddy-like in its choice of humor. the entire plot was too predictable, and there were only 2 or 3 jokes that were worth noting or remembering. and none of those were even aimed at anyone older than 10 years old. yes, the graphics were great and they did a damn good job of incorporating it all together, but the plot itself was way too simple. its like saying that waterworld was the best movie ever simply because of the special effects...

give me a break...
And I like the Scottish ogre. Mike Myers seems to have some kind of Scottish fixation. If it's not Scottish, it's crap!
I kind of see Mac o' the Isles as Shrek when I read his posts. I've heard he's much more handsome, though.
it took me a year (of living in uk) to hear the difference between uk and us english...
if i cant decide what is something.. could be australian or canadian then
i'm glad i havent seen shrek dubbed in italian...
eddy was ... sooo donkey!!
