...sometimes the French seem really clueless. I know we have our fair share of morons in the US, but at least we know how to hold a labor strike. Here, when a group of workers from a particular company or industry want better pay, they make sure their services stop all right - but they don't intentionally screw with other sectors of the economy and other people's lives at the same time.
These dumbass truckers who are blockading the French roads and highways to make their point are not only grinding their businesses to a halt, but everyone else's too - whether they have to do with trucking or not. If some dumbass union stopped me from getting to my job on time every day, rather than wanting to see them helped, I'd want to see them all shit-canned on the spot.
Not only that, but how do emergency services get where they're going when all the roads are hosed? These truckers are a bunch of assholes in my opinion. You don't endanger other people's jobs and safety just to make sure you get more for doing your job. I hope the companies hire a bunch of immigrants (assuming that's not whose already at the wheel) and pay them a few francs more per hour than the current lot.
Powerdoc, what do you think of all this? Does our media here make it out to be worse than it is, or has the whole country basically come under gridlock as it seems?

Hmmm...what about the West Coast dockworkers?
here the Fiat wants to close a factory in sicily and keep production only in north. and that's really bad for the economy of Termini in south... = they strike. they strike, have been striking for 2 months. they haev had numerous strikes in palermo, messing all city's traffic. and closed an airport some time ago. now those working for Fiat in north have started striking as well = they closed the airport on Milan last week just to strike.
= italians do that as well. i hate when they mess other people's life for their reasons what ever they are

FYI the Firemen are currently on strike in the UK.
Personally I support them just because of the horrendous way that they are portrayed in the media. For example, heavy coverage of a women and her children who died during the first strike. This is wrong because she lived on a farm that is so far from civilisation that it is protected by locals who act as part-time firemen, these people were not on strike, and so any deaths would have happend anyway.

They're just not on the job (they are now but anyway). They ARE NOT out in the harbor blocking every boat coming and going. Nor are they on the street blocking people trying to earn a living on their own.

Agreed, they were just not doing their job, not keeping others from doing theirs. However, many people cannot do their job because technically the road starts at the docks, so they were blocking the roads, at the source. To the tune of about $1 billion a day by many estimates. So they were not going out of their way to stop others from working, because they did not have to, simply by not working they stopped almost all other commerce around them.
