Actually.. I don't, and even if I did it'd be absolutely none of your business anyway.

Now how about to try to offer something constructive to the article/conversation at hand and cease with the childish/seemingly envy-laden jabs - Thanks.

    1) Don't tell someone it's none of their business immediately after you tell ten, this inviting them into your business.

    2) if you are going to dish it out you need to be able to take it. Don't be a hypocrit, it's poor form.

    01) Nowhere in the post to which you so rudely responded did I once mention your screen name or address you in any way, shape or form, so it's obvious that all you were doing was butting-in and rabble-rousing via a completely unprovoked personal attack.

02 ) Personally... I'd rather you not even read or respond to any of my posts as I find this 'internet persona' you've created on AI utterly repulsive on every level (Hint: there is an IGNORE option, so feel free to use it).

So - Don't Be A Flaming Troll... It's Extremely Poor Form.

Though the power button on the Kindle Fire is located on the bottom of the device (exactly the same size and distance as the headphone jack from the microUSB port), it protrudes from the device's edge less than one millimeter and requires a rather firm 'push' to activate.

If yours is so easily activated that merely placing "it on your lap the wrong way or just try to hold the thing in a natural way to read, it turns the device off", then something's definitely wrong with that particular device and you should have it repaired/replaced.

In the meantime, just use the device with the power button on top and the speakersa facing downward as the Kindle Fire is largely a completely blank slate (no controls/markings) on the front, so rotating it 180 degrees won't pose any usability issues whatsoever.

Anyway... Really enjoying my Kindle Fire, consider it one of the most user-friendly and value laden device I've ever owned.

Both my Kindle Fire and my Kindle Touch have this problem. And yes, I do resort to turning it upside down but the problem with that scenario is that some of my magazine subscription applications do not support 180 degree rotation.

Overall I love my Kindle Fire for what it is.

    1) Since I clearly addressed my comment to Mr. Applebaum you are butting in.

    2) Poor guy, so upset that I read your posts but you aren't willing to put me on ignore.

    3) There you go not only calling me, personally a troll but implying I'm homosexual as well. Of course, you think you are allowed as hominen attacks instead of attacking the comment. Shame on you!

As far as I know there isn't any protocol in an open thread saying that people can only respond to people who have responded to them.

As far as Solipsism's internet persona. Let's pit your persona against his. Do you want to take a poll?

I agree it's a fine, highly portable media-consumption device, one offered at an 'unbelievable' price.

Anyway... I own every model in the Kindle generation 4 lineup and just tried to recreate this 'easily activated power button' issue in dozens of different ways, even going so far as to bounce my Kindle basic, Kindle Touch and Kindle Fire on a smooth/hard surface, with no issues. \

Additionally: Could you share which "magazine subscription applications" do not support 180 degree rotation", because all of my Amazon Kindle subscriptions rotate perfectly, as do the ones I read on my Kindle Fire via the Android Nook app I side-loaded ?

Someone's in a sour mood. It was a joke. Sheesh.

Do your boxers say "Mr. Serious" on them? I take that back, they're probably tighty-whities.

Not at all... but If that's what you need to believe, though you should know the history behind my dealings with this 'character' over the last 2.5 years or so before passing judgement, especially given that he constantly trolls my posts, bullies/flames others without provocation, incites partisan bickering, et al. like it's his job or something.

Yes, she has an old purse that belonged to her Mom...

She thinks her daughter uses it primarily to smuggle a 35-cent bottle of water into the movies -- as opposed to spending $2 inside.

I will let my daughter and all her friends know they are social misfits.

1/2 the cost nearly 1/2 the size, the Fire is inferior to the iPad, who would have thunk? I never understood why or how the Fire is considered a competitor to the iPad? For what it does, it does it very well. For what it does, it meets many peoples requirements at a great price.

I didn't mean that... I just find it interesting because what I observe of the current generation's dress...

It may depend on time, place and social mores...

My late wife, Lucy, was raised in a religious family in a suburb of Pittsburgh PA in the 1940s to early 1960s.

I first met Lucy when she was looking for an apartment and ran into my roommate...

It was a hot day in Pomona CA in June 0f 1963...

    Lucy was wearing:

-- a business suit (coat, blouse, skirt, girdle)

    -- a hat

    -- white gloves

    -- nylons and high heels

    -- and carried a purse

That was the way a proper young lady dressed... ...maybe in the East, but unusual for California

Today, many attend church in jeans or shorts, tank tops and flip-flops... at least in California

I often disagree with Dick on many subjects, the difference is he adds to the discussion and always gets me to rethink my position and/or research more deeply any counter argument I wish to make. Anyone who gets me to see things from a new PoV is tops in my book. I'm better for having interacted with him.

Whenever a new product is available... the guys at iFixIt and iSupply open them up and see what's inside.

If you know the parts that are in the device... it's not too hard to find out what those parts cost on the open market.

Sure... it's just an estimate... but it's in the ballpark.

Ballparks can be rather far from reality. What occurs the ball park when somebody like Amazon, or more to the point, APple, fronts up with a vast pile of money saying "yeah, we will buy your entire production run for the next year, at this cost"

Does apple pay more, pay less, or pay the 'cost estimated from an analyst.

And yes, ifixit open the product when they get it. The costing for the amazon tablet appeared before the product had shipped. That's bound to be in the ball park.

I estimate the cost of goods is somewhere between 0 and 500$, thats in the ballpark without any requirement to price.
