Apple Large Real Estate Purchase

Does anyone other than me think that Apple's purchase of the old MCI Worldcom building(s) in the east might have something to do with tomorrow? They must have purchased it for "some" purpose.... Hmmmm

Yeah, that was back in 2006:

And the comments indicate that it was for eastern iTunes farming.

What, you think the movie rentals will send this place into overdrive?

They were buying up real estate all around Apple HQ to consolidate their campuses. Whether they take some of the old real estate and upgrade it's infrastructure does help Apple test future product ideas by making sure they have a diverse test harness, including a network infrastructure that would simulate a Telco.

It's going to be a gulag for employees with loose lips.

Music, Movies, Games and iPhone/iPod touch application sales/rentals will demand this extra server farm capacity

Hasn't Akami and Apple parted ways as well?

Just a note that the facility Apple bought was not in the east, but in Newark, CA (in the East Bay across the Dumbarton Bridge from Palo Alto/Menlo Park). this is nowhere near there Cupertino campus or other Apple facilites. Since it is a Tier IV carrrier-grade facility, you can imagine that it is the linchpin in Apple's online aspirations (iTS with movies, .Mac and whatever else they have up their sleeve).

I believe that Apple is still partnered with Akamai for "edge delivery".

They went to buy properties around Apple headquarters to consolidate its campus. Taking some of the old real estate and infrastructure upgrade your Apple does help test future product ideas making sure. They have a different test instrument including a network infrastructure capable of simulating.
