As to the movie I was thinking about, Avatar is the one with the curved computer console screens. Obviously we don't want Apple getting into building work stations that size, but a nice curved desk top screen, transparent or not, would be very appealing. After a bit desktop screens are just too big.

OK, but I very much see an advantage to a phone that can flex a bit and be no worst off because of it. That doesn't mean bending into a U bolt or other shape. That is iPhone, there are endless possibilities for such a material. One being a heads up transparent visor. If LCDs could be laminated to the glass or OLEDs grown on the panel and the easily bent afterward this would be huge for advertising. Just think screen you could wrap around posts and beams in building, even corners could become dynamic.

The curved displays in Avatar would be useful but the transparency was just Hollywood flare. The only way that is useful is if you need to look past the display often, like with a HUD. Having a a transparent display that can molded into the shape of your vehicle's windshield or a motorcyclist's helmet could have a lot of benefits in keeping a driver informed and safe.

Willow glass has great potential. May take a year or two for Apple to incorporate it in their devices unfortunately . Unless Apple & Corning have been working on this for a while before cornings announcement. If thats the case we could see it in the Iphone5

None of us really have any idea of what use this Willow Glass is, and what Apple (and many others) will use it for, but this 2006 paper from a Cornell scientist gives a few hints. It actually sounds quite revolutionary: http://people.ccmr.cornell.edu/~cober/mse542/page2/files/Schwartz%20R2R%20Processing.pdf

It's a good thing Corning is making flexible displays. If Apple decides to use them, I would be pissed if they got them from Samsung.
