Will it work well around the globe, and this 3D view too, or only mainly the USA? Europe?? The same about traffic info... :)

On top of that Apple has never been nor never will be an independent company. They will always contract with other companies for services and products that simply can't or won't do.

Apple can easily buy TomTom.  Most portable navigation systems in the future will be iPhones and iPod touches.

The iOS 6 Map makes Google Map unnecessary on iOS devices.  Even Street View is not needed because the Apple 3D feature actually clearly shows you the sidewalk in front of buildings at the proper angle.  This avoids the legal privacy issues of street view capturing images and wifi that it should not capture.

    Time will tell.

    1) I see no need for Apple to buy every company it can simply because it has the cash when partnering with them seems to be a better option.

    2) The 3D modeling is not as effective as Street View. it's not even close! But that's beside the point because last night I tested Maps in 3D across many friends and family and only a couple had any 3D modeling that worked. Of the couple that did work the modeling only looked decent from a distance; if you tried to zoom in you got an ugly visual effect that wasn't even close to street view's resolution or usefulness. C3 cannot see a number on a building looking it from a human's perspective!

    3) I don't get why Google was capturing anything but images and their GPS locations anyway. Why have any device that can record WiFi SSIDs and their data?

Although I don't use street view to find my way around, me and a lot of my family / friends just use it for fun. It's great being able to go around the world and look at at as if standing on the street. I hope street view is available on the Google iOS map.

Very much looking forward to using the 3D feature! Although it is only initially available for major areas (if I'm reading the Apple website correctly) hopefully in future it will be available in many more areas too. Can't went for iOS 6!
