We really ought to toss them some firewood.
I've tossed them Windows based laptops, licenses for MS Office and XBox 360. Hopefully, they get it through their thick skulls that they don't have to screw customers over just to survive, or maintain that f*ck*ng illusion of market share.
I like Apple. But I think customers will be best served if we have many companies that deliver great products without activating their copying machines.

I really wish that this whole song and dance can come to a conclusion. It;s getting tiring seeing nothing but 'apple vs samsung' news items cluttering what I really want to see is new product announcement/cool things I want to read about.
Yeah, because if these stories weren't being posted, they'd obviously be replaced with magical product announcement which will then be created out of thin air. Do you think this site, and every other site in the world has missed covering some new Apple product launch? Or, just maybe, there's simply not much else happening at this point in the Apple world besides this trial. That should change in a few weeks.

Yep, this was a product that has been anticipated for months. Abysmal. It just goes to show how much Samsung REALLY cares about the end user experience. They somehow managed to choke a 1.4Ghz quadcore cpu with 2GB ram on a tablet running only 1280x800 resolution with their worse than shit touchwiz UI. This thing lags and stutters in the damn lockscreen and swiping homescreens. Unbelievable. The industry as a whole would be better off if Samsung was knocked down a peg and people realized there are other options in the Android world, including HTC, Asus etc. They're all putting out higher quality stuff than Samsung but simply are not getting any attention. A couple nuggets from reviews I've read:

One thing to remember , I was at CTIA in March 2010 and that was just after the Samsung CEO said their tablet was garbage and it had to be redesigned. When I went to the Samsung booth in 2010, there was the old black tablets that were operational and this sleek one setting in a glass cube that would not operate... it sure as heck looked like a iPad copy and there was no way that they could have designed that from scratch in the time the CEO said their first attempt was crap.

Unless you really need a stylus, there's absolutely no advantage to the Tab 10.1 - and lots of disadvantages. And if you really need a stylus, I believe there are third party options for the iPad.

And there were plenty of other folks "designing" iPads in October 2009. Like Wired's Gadget Lab, or DotGizmo. They had some pretty good renderings by then, too. If Samsung was only just starting in October, they were way behind the curve!

The issue is not a rectangle with rounded corners. If you've been paying attention then you'll see that it is much more than that.
The issue is that Samsung took many small elements from both the physical design and the UX. All those little things culminated together to produce something that was alarmingly similar to the iOS devices on the market. Little things that, on their own, wouldn't have worried Apple: Some icons look the same, the charger looks the same, the layout of screen elements is similar (or the same in some circumstances). Put all those little things together and viola!

I really wish Samsung stopped making a big deal about the "S-Pen". Its a Wacom Digitizer - its nothing new and nothing special. Support for styluses under Android is pretty damn dire - even worse than the iPad and not even in the same solar system as Wintabs. At least the iPad has a bluetooth pressure sensitive stylus available on the market now and apps like sketchbook pro and artrage can already make use of it.
