In the theft scenario, replace Samsung with Nokia. So it's not just Samsung talk.   ;)

Or HTC. Or LG. Or Motorola. No one wants to steal ANY Android phones.

… in what way? It's obvious you don't want to hear about Apple, so go to an Android forum where they bash Apple instead.

Not at all, I actually visit this site daily but just hardly ever comment. You are a very high regarded person on this site who is very opinionated but also very educated and respected.

I come on this site to read Apple fans reactions to things APPLE, I just hate when everyone complains about Samsung yet it is every other word coming out of their mouth. The best way to ignore Samsung is to not talk about it, it's almost like we're giving them free publicity and marketing (good or bad) whenever you guys constantly bring it up. It's annoying, that's all.

And this has to be my longest post in the history of AI ;)

Thanks Skil, didn't get that last part though. Can you elaborate?

I have to agree with this sentiment. I find it tiresome how so many threads here degenerate into Apple-flaming and/or Samsung/Google/Android-flaming. I firmly believe that the Apple fans who flame Samsung are just as much trolls as the Samsung fans who come here to bait them.

The Samsung-flaming has gotten to be such a routine that it starts before the Apple-haters even arrive in a thread! Don't feed the trolls!

To be fair: almost every thread anywhere on the internet degenerates. But can't we try to do better here?

    I agree entirely with this.

But you're the one who started it in this thread, sflocal. You gave the hornet's nest a kick before the Apple-haters even showed up.

A great many users come on here for the sole purpose of being anti-Apple in every respect. Some are paid to do this, most are not. They're allowed to spew whatever lies they want here as long as it doesn't go against our rules. And so, instead of letting those lies stand as what would appear to an outsider to be fact, we'll respond to them, correcting them, and showing up just how wrong they are. Of course, that winds up appearing like it turns into anti-everyone-else arguments, but there truly are not many of us that think everyone sucks but Apple.

And how many Samsung phones were stolen before being sold? NONE.
Not even the thieves want to bother with those.

    Agree 100% LOL

There are probably numerous massive thefts of phones made by other manufacturers, but, since Apple has complete control over the media, none of these can be reported. Especially Samsung phones which may have been 'shipped to the wrong dealer'.

    Cheers

Can you people go one forum without talking about Samsung? Seriously. Bunch of hypocrites.

Exactly what I was thinking, the headline could read "People wiping their asses with iPhones" and there'll be "Nobody's wiping their ass with a Samsung" post.

We do wanna hear about Apple, but does Samsung and/or Android need be mentioned in every thread? Comment on the topic of the article. Mentioning Samsung all the time stops being funny and starts sounding pitiful. Every mention whether positive or negative gives them relevance. Does Apple bashing go on in those other sites? Yes but not in every single thread.

The reality is that this forum has become infested with Android fanboys, that not only is here to piss in everyone's pool, but to spread downright lies to justify their (your) iHating crusade.

I have no problems with rational, thoughtful discussions about Apple products, and even those of competitors.  I'm actually quite interested in Microsoft's mobile offerings and considering expanding development work to that OS.  Android, doubt it.

I would agree with you that there are some on here that who have nothing positive to ever say about Apple. If you reply to them then you're guilty of justifying their existence. The very first poster on this thread lambasted Samsung, why do that if the topic is solely about iPhone thefts.

Even if not activated/registered doesn't Apple have a record of which units where shipped where?

Regarding the comment of inside job - while that may be so in some cases - in the case of Best Buy - where they have cages to store products above the regular on display merchandise it would not be at all difficult for a custom to walk through the store and get an idea where the target product is located and ramming a vehicle through a wall/door seems a bit less subtle than the tactics I would expect from someone with inside help. Would be far easier to "accidentally" leave a door unlocked such that it might take a day or two for the theft to even be noticed giving you more time to sell the goods.

Regarding Apple products (esp newly announced products) - I would guess that the thieves could care less  what the product or who the manufacturer is and are simply capitalizing on the fact that certain products, even stolen, demand a premium and others don't. Not that I think most criminals are very smart - but they do understand that product A gets you enough cash on the black market to buy a 6 pack of beer while product B gets you enough to buy your next bag of crack. (or something along those lines).

Is this thread about the stolen iPhones or about Apple-vs-Samsung (+other Android vendors)? I would hope that I am either a serious contributor here or sometimes attempt some funny comments (many of which probably just fall flat). Having said that, my first thought was: how come we don't see many reports of non-Apple phones being stolen?

The fact is that iPhones are desirable and people will buy stolen phones, knowingly or unknowingly -- it's the same as the legitimate market: supply & demand. UK phones can be blocked by networks, but the phone has to be powered-up within range of UK transmitters -- once they're shipped out of the country, they cannot be blocked/de-activated, and given that some markets are already reporting that legit iPhone5 are changing hands at $1000 apiece, "back-of-the-lorry" phones are going to fetch at least the same amount.

Based on an average selling price of $650, the 252 phones lifted from the O2 store would have a total value of nearly $165,000.

They're probably worth at least $250,000 to the thief, and maybe more in the "right" market.

A point I have to make is that this site is primarily for Apple products -- non-Apple products are mentioned when they are of interest to Apple users or for comparison purposes so you will find a lot of pro-Apple (anti-non-Apple) comments here, but most of them lack vitriol. Visit even neutral sites which write positive articles about Apple and a swarm of Android users invade with some pretty nasty comments -- some of these people are too biased and too stupid to be alive, but they have an opinion and an outlet for spewing their vitriolic comments. I often wonder if some of these have ever seen, never mind used, an Apple product. Many comments are just copy & paste from bloggers'/commentators' articles.

Just recently it hit me where else I have seen similar reactions -- far-right and racist websites, where there is little that is rational so now I treat Apple-haters like I do the racists -- challenge or ignore the ignorants.

And some of these poor fools still write about Apple stealing stuff from Xerox PARC or that Microsoft somehow saved Apple from bankruptcy (when Apple had $2Billion in cash sitting in the bank).

Sometimes I just have to accept that this is all part of human nature and human interaction -- it's the level of hatred that saddens me.

The London thief was not very knowledgeable about digital devices. Otherwise, he would've stolen 256 of them

Haha, here I was just thinking how I have never seen it anywhere but "mommy war" forums. Creepy.
