Can iMovie edit ONLY DV Streams?

I was so excited when I got my iBook to do some editing using iMovie. Currently, I'm using Premiere 6 on PC, and it is very slow going.

So I tried to import my AVI video that I captured using my PC. iMovie won't import it!?!

So then I took some 320x240 Quicktime clips using my Olympus D-370, and iMovie wouldn't even import that! Is there a way to import video other than DV Streams???

If not I'll be looking for FCP3 on Limewire haha.

pres.

    there are plenty of free/shareware utilities that will do conversions from AVI, QT, etc to DV.

    try searching <a href="http://shareware.cnet.com"; target="_blank">http://shareware.cnet.com</a>;

    You can use Quicktime pro to save any movie as a DV stream. But DV stream is an un-compressed format so the files get real big, real fast.

    I wanted to try out iMovie when it first came down the pipe, so I converted a small QT clip (it was 1 or 2 meg) to a DV Stream. The conversion took ages and the DV file ended up around 8 to 10 meg.

    yes, 4 gig size limit. try spliting the original source into 2 files then converting it.

    mistake, imovie has 2gig file size limit.

    i believe the limit is due to HFS. if imovie was only designed for HFS+, the limit should be 4.7gig
