Newton gains Mp3 playback, iTunes compatibility
<a href="http://www.40hz.org/MADNewton/" target="_blank">http://www.40hz.org/MADNewton/</a>
The Newton finally has a decent Mp3 player.
Not only that, but they also have it so it will sync your playlists with iTunes in both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X!
Who needs an iPod now?

Only 56Kb? My Palm, using its piezo, plays any quality MP3 file off its 32MB memory card. And the piezo sounds decent for a vibrating piece of metal <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> - you can actually understand words!
Actually, when the driver is done, you'll be able to play 'any quality MP3' off a 5 GB ATA card. That's iPod size for you.
32 MB, pathetic! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Heh heh - but mine has this capability now. And I will be able to get 1GB SD cards soon. Also, my Palm m500 was made in 2001. Newton? 1997 at the latest?? Yeah - Apple was way ahead of their time. And I'm not animadverting Newtons. I think they are kewl except for the handwriting recognition, which is the one thing preventing me from getting ahold of one (and the fact that I have and like my Palm m500).

what exactly about the handwriting recognition? it is still years ahead of anything Palm has

I have very very good handwriting. I write on the Newton: Hello
Guess what it converts it to? "H3110". Maybe Apple saw 1337 ahead of time...

heh, guess what, you're lieing.
get a hold of a newton with the 2.1 and then get back to me and tell me the handwriting recognition sucks.

Lieing? That's not a word. I think you meant "lying". And, yes, I performed that test on a Newton with NewtonOS 2.1. In fact, I wrote some other stuff too. Here are the results:
hello, thwe 1. how aoe you doing? Fin 1 exc ept It's a good Ming this POS has a kybowf so you can at crap inlzit.
And again, I wrote in very nice handwriting and had the thing "calibrated" properly as well.
Test #2:
HeIIo,+m 1. This is a lest RecogniHon sucks ass and I have good handwring. (hehe written in graphic for some odd reason) HM Arrgh! Must be a micmsoft Product.
See how bad all that is?? And some of those I erased and tried again. ALl this was written in Notepad.
What's your argument now, Applenut? And I agree with torifile- at least you can get something done on the Palm. I also like writing letter-by-letter, and once you get used to it you can write pretty fast and it is accurate most of the time. I have written a 16,000 byte Graphical User Interface from scratch in C, entirely on my Palm (yes, you CAN compile sophisticated C programs on a Palm!)
And is there SimCity for Newtons? Nope. But there is for Palm - the REAL thing!
It seems to me, applenut, that you like to find every possible excuse to back up Apple products when you know there are better alternatives. Instead of seeing how cool other stuff is, you simply animadvert them. I'm not talking about Macs, which there is nothing better than. I am talking about things like the Newton, which was ahead of its time and had poor handwriting recognition. The Palm is clearly better. And I think PocketPCs suck just like any M$ product.
