New iPod carrying case from Apple...

All the photos of this case at Apple's site (all the ones I've found, anyway) ONLY show this thing from the side/back (3/4 kinda angle).

Am I smart to assume that this is because UNLIKE EVERY OTHER iPOD CARRIER/CASE/POUCH/CLIP IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE, the one from Apple themselves DOESN'T have an opening in the front, where you can access the control wheel and/or view the screen?

Has to, right? I mean, not to be catty, but that seems like an Apple-y kinda thing to do: come to the party extremely late, then do it in a slightly inferior, half-ass way (not everything, of course, but some things...like this particular instance).

I know that remote control negates the need for constant access to the scroll wheel (but not ALL). Plus, you'd still want to look at the screen, wouldn't you?

With Apple's "solution", do you have to keep pulling the iPod out of it's little carrying case to view the display or work the wheel?

Maybe I'm wrong and all the pictures from the side/back are that way to show the belt clip?

Does anyone know if Apple's iPod carrier/belt clip has opening on the front face to allow operation/viewing while it's in the case?

Funny, I was wondering the exact same thing. If anybody has pictures of the front of this thing, post 'em here!

    Look at it this way:

You would have had to buy a case anyway if they didn't give you one. Now, maybe you won't. Maybe.

The case doesn't seem to have an opening in the front fore the scroll wheel and screen like the OWC one does. There is a special pocket for the remote and ear buds. Here's a side view:

But unlike other cases that I have seen, it looks like it would be easy to remove the iPod quickly and put it back in, kind of like a pager case. My question is whether or not the iPod will slip out of there if you bed over or do a summersault or something.

    edit:

And it looks like it's leather! What's up with that?!

With the remote I guess Apple figures you don't need to access the wheel except perhaps for starting up?

My dad has a really nice cell phone, and he sticks it inside this god awful foam case with plastic windows through which to view the screen and push the buttons. I've never understood that logic. Buy something nice and then stick it in an ugly holster. I only want an iPod case for one thing - to protect it while I'm moving. I don't want to have to try to use it through a window. Even if it weren't plastic covered it would suck (I've seen pictures of cases that have holes cut out, and they're ugly), not to mention the fact that there's no point in putting it in a case if the part you look at most often is going to get scratched and scuffed regardless.

Steve is not vegan - I don't know why everyone keeps saying that. He eats fish for a start - he loves Sushi. He's close to vegetarian, apart from the fish, like many people who call themselves vegetarian.

I'm betting he is not against leather. He just doesn't like animal flesh in his mouth.

Are you sure about this? I've read in many places that he's Vegan or at least was. I read in a book that he had the chef from his favorite vegan restaurant come to Cupertino to work in the cafeteria for him. Where have you heard that he eats fish and loves sushi?

You can actually get vegan sushi you know. Ever have a california roll with fake crab meat? mmmmmm

I think Apple's iPod case is very boring and ugly. I was surprised when I saw it. Also, why black?! I think a silver/gray tone with a more suede like texture would be more fitting for the iPod. Then again, so would a titanium shell instead of the Lucite coated white.

A close friend of mine worked in a Japanese restaurant in California. Steve was there number one customer (as in, the most famous customer they had). He always ordered sushi (not vegetarian), and on occasion ate their with Larry Ellison.

This was 2 or 3 years ago, so he may have gone completely vegan since. However, I'm betting that, like many "vegetarians", he actually does eat fish.

That doesn't mean he wouldn't have a favourite vegan chef. I too only eat fish (love sushi), but if I was to get my favourite chef to cook my meals it would be the chef at the vegan restaurant The White Lotus here in Melbourne. Doesn't make me truly vegan though.

Colette is a cool shop in Paris-they sell the Dior iPod case but only in limited numbers-think only about 50 are available
