Can I move the pics in my iPhoto Library?

Can I make a shortcut to a folder on my external FireWire hard drive and keep my pics there? I'm planning on taking LOTS of pics in high quality mode (a meg a piece) and thus I'd run out of space on my pathetic and almost full iBook's 10 gig drive.

Yes. I have done this and it works fine (in iPhoto 1.1, it doesn't work in 1.0).

Yep I just made a shortcut to the folder which I moved to my external drive, it found it. So if iPhoto can do this how come we need to keep some stuff EXACTLY where it is, like Mail in the Applications folder? OS X seems "fragile" in some ways.

    Aquatic,

When you use an alias, do the new photos you import end up on your external drive or do you have to manually move them?

Nope they go to external drive. This won't screw anything up I hope. I'm going to update my 10.2.2 to 10.2.3 as soon as I can get to some broadband aKa when my friend cleans his damn room...

    Hiya...

I was wandering through the forums of Nikon review and found a program mentioned called iPhoto Librarian, which allows you to select a library folder for phots before it runs iPhoto. It may be exactly what you are looking for.

Now you don't have to keep all your porn in the same library as your family photos... <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />
