New 800Mbps FIREWIRE question

Belkin's new 9-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable will connect your 6-pin FireWire devices to your new 9-pin port on your Macintosh computer or it will connect to your 6-pin port on your computer to your new 9-pin device. With data transfer rates of up to 800Mbps (limited by device/port speed), the 9-pin to 6-pin FireWire Cable is the fastest way to connect your FireWire devices.

So does this mean that if your computer isn't 9 pin you still won't be able to get 800mbps even if the device you're using is a 9 pin?

Yeah, it is like the conservation of data...you cannot get faster than a 56kbps on a modem, even though the server may be going 10MBps, because you cannot speed up lines like that... The slowest speed will determine what the speed is... If you have AirPort extreme going throug a modem, it will not increase your internet connection speed.

Sorry, you wont be able to get a boost from FireWire 800 things unless you are using FireWire 800 from computer, through a cable, to your device
