Apple nearing release of OS X 10.9.2 with FaceTime Audio, call waiting, fix for SSL flaw [u]
Some employees at Apple have begun receiving a prerelease build of OS X Mavericks version 10.9.2, signaling that the final public release of the software is likely not far behind, and it is confirmed to include a fix for the "goto fail" SSL bug [updated].
Some employees have been provided with a version of OS X 10.9.2 identified as build 13C64, people familiar with the matter told AppleInsider on Monday. The forthcoming update includes the usual security fixes, but also adds a number of new features to Mavericks, most notably the ability to make and receive FaceTime audio calls.
Update: One person with access to the prerelease build confirmed to AppleInsider that the latest version of OS X 10.9.2 does patch the so-called "goto fail" SSL security flaw.
OS X 10.9.2 will also add call waiting support for FaceTime audio and video calls. The Messages application in OS X will also gain the ability to block incoming iMessages from individual senders.
Internal release notes provided to employees also indicate that the update improves the accuracy of unread messages counts in Mail. The update is also expected to resolve an issue that would prevent Mail from receiving new messages from certain providers.

Looks like most of the complaints about Gmail will be dead and buried this time. Not that they’re not already dead and buried if you just stop whoring yourself out to Google.

It would make sense for Apple to hold back on the 10.9.2 release until a fix for the SSL problem can be fixed. People can wait an extra week to keep from having to run two OS updates back-to-back. I checked the latest version of Xcode and the offending file isn't included so it's something Apple has to fix anyway.

I have more than enough email issues on Mac with Exchange. Forget Gmail.

Safari is updated to version 7.0.2 (9537.74.9).
I can confirm it fixes the goto fail SSL/TLS bug in Safari.
One aspect I've noted is that my external monitor which is rotated 90 degrees reverted to its default rotation setting, and the arrangement reverted too.
After installing, I have a desktop notification "Optimizing Your Mac: Performance may be impacted until completed."
Safari is updated to version 7.0.2 (9537.74.9).

I remember awhile back there was some vulnerability with autofill in Safari and people suggested we turn that feature off. Mine is still off. Does anyone recall when that issue got resolved?

What about a fix for the waiting icon that happens whenever the Finder tries to access a folder? This one is really annoying!
I had that issue not too long ago and it turned out that I needed to do some hard drive repair in Disk Utility. I have probably upwards of a million files and the indexing just got buggered up over time. Once I repaired the drive, the beach balls were pretty much gone or at least very brief. Give that a try.
Tiny rant: After my last 10.9.2 beta installation some wonkiness ensued. I ran Disk Utility and it shows some issues and requested I reboot to do a Repair. No problem! Upon accessing the Disk Utility in the Repair mode I noticed I couldn't do what was required because FileVault2 was still enabled. I wish it was smart enough to 1) remind me I need to turn it off and let it complete before trying to repair the disk, or 2) let me input my private key to unlock it on the Repair side so I don't have to go through the rigamarole of unencrypting the disk, rebooting, waiting, rebooting, booting into the Repair mode, running the repair, rebooting, reapplying FileVault2, and rebooting again.
Should land later today or tomorrow then.
Hoping iOS 7.1 b6 lands as well with SSL patched.
This can't come soon enough. Because of having a 2013 MacBook Pro, I must use Mavericks because it won't boot anything previous, and my SSL VPN connection to the office disconnects after 10 to 15 minutes every single time I use it. It totally blows.
Latest beta on ADC still doesn't fix the SSL vulnerability - I tested it this morning on my beta test VM.
Come on Apple, get on with it already.
