"are" is the proper plural in Britain, and possibly in Canada as well.

As in, "Apple are a manufacturer of computers."

This use extends to other verbs as well:

"Apple have released an update to their Power Macintosh line."

I don't know...check out the inconsistency on the capitalization of the words. Capital letters on everything but the word "ahead".
