spymac.com: Jerry Hsu made us do it!

Well, glad that's settled.

Spymac.com has revealed the letter that "forced" them to take down their videos:

[quote]

We would like to portray our worry that you could be preventing us from having a impacting MacWorld San Francisco, therefore we ask you to remove the pictures and movies of the iWalk device which may or may not be released at MacWorld San Francisco on Janurary 7th from your website.

If this is not followed up legal action will be taken within 24 hours.

Anyone who *has* received a cease-and-desist from Apple, feel free to compare its contents with this. The email is supposedly from Jerry Hsu, who, a quick scan of Apple's web site reveals, is the Markets PR Specialist for the Consumer, Design & Publishing, and Education markets. Why he's also in charge of poorly worded, misspelled letters devoid of legal content to websites is anybody's guess.

Poor guys are just sinking from bad to worse. Sounds to me like the German design guy is really pretty good at what he does [Mac mockups], but the Canadian Webmaster is fair-to-middling.

I totally agree! Why hasn't the oh-so-concerned Mr. Hsu asked wired.com to do the same?? It has been and STILL is available to see on their site at this link:

    I'm not buying it!

It is funny how convenient that "Apple Letter" is for Spymacs sake. They obviously are afraid now.

"We would like to portray our worry that you could be preventing us from having a impacting MacWorld..."

    What the hell?

    "Portray our worry?!!"

    "... and impacting MacWorld?!!!"

Does Apple hire illiterates? Is Jerry Hsu in charge of Apple Legal Services, Bangkok Division?

For a second there I thought you were going to tell us this confirms the iWalk is real...phew.

Maybe Apple created Spymac to throw everyone off.

Did we really need another topic about spymac?

This certainly does anything but subtract from whatever credibility they already had (or didn't). Then again, who am I to criticize..

Apple doesn't hire illiterates. Germans write for SpyMac. (No offense to Germans, but English is a second language to y'all.)

Just out of curiosity, I would be curiouse to know when someone is going to tell Apple legal to kiss their ass.

They're probably swiftly and deftly assassinated and stored in an underground bunker beneath 1 Infinate Loop.

Oh, that letter is so realistic.

I cannot stand these losers pretending to have legal action threatened against them by Apple Legal, like it's a badge of honor or something.

Anyway, if you want REAL inside info, just check out the specs for the new hardware coming at MWSF in my signature!

When the Kihei iMacs (i.e., the current ones) were leaked, good ol' MacWeek told Apple to "stuff it" and kept the images up. They were never prosecuted (nor was their parent company).

The wording of that letter is certainly strange. Then again, just because someone is an attorney or executive doesn't neccesarily mean they have good verbal skills. Just look at the President of the United States. I'm surprised he managed to graduate from middle school..

    Anyway...

Ditto. Just like when the Quicksilver pics were posted and nobody thought they were right...but they were.

Here's a little known fact - there is no "Apple Legal" department, they use a firm of lawyers called Arent-Fox based in Washington, DC to do their dirty work.

A typical one would go a little something like this:

    [quote]

We represent Apple Computer, Inc. ("Apple") with respect to its intellectual property matters. It has come to our attention that you are distributing a software editing tool for creating themes for the MAC OS (the "Editor") at the following web sites:

    (et fscking cetera)

I think it's very unlikely that anyone at Apple would have sent them anything, that's just not how they operate.

    robo,

Mr. Hsu is a PR excec. That means he needs to have proper verbal and writing skills. Perhaps a letter was sent in German and it was translated back into English, thus the poor language.

Funny stuff! This smells of bogus to me. I guarantee after the keynote we will get something like:

"Apple have been told us that iWalk will have be released today, but we has be told that due to our leakage of spy photo and movie they hold back on it."

The biggest mistake spymac made is the shots of the iWalk turned off.

The screen is gray/greenish just like any other monochrome LCD screen - color LCD screens are black when turned off.
