Mail app still sucks, but i now think it must be Google or the overparanoia people behind it. I hate Google. Talk about hubris.
OS X Yosemite actually looks like shite. Yes, it does. Nothing is good about making something look like paper and flat. Nothing is better then depth, color, and 3D.

Same story as with Logic Pro X.
Logic Pro X still can't audio warp audio files automatically in the arrange window or in the preview, like like every other professional DAW can. It's a freaking standard!
Maybe in another 3 years all FX and Instrument plugins will look 2014, and warping will be available, but then it will not be Logic 10 anymore, now will it?
    Turning into Microshite.

I'd be fine with them not caring about anything Google does that isn't part of an international standard and for which Apple doesn't already have a better alternative.

WebM, for example, is Google's disgusting attempt at controlling Internet video. Apple doesn't support it (Perian, which still works in 10.10, does), nor should they.

I vaguely remember Google saying that they would stop converting YouTube videos to MP4 going forward and only do it to WebM. I think, however, that this didn't come to pass–probably for antitrust reasons.

I don't. Why do people have to lie about Apple's software, either from a standpoint of ignorance or idiocy? All I care about is Truth.

    Yes.

    I mustn't keep quoting your posts—AI might get annoyed—but I'm feeling curious. ????

Has anyone determined what is non-complient about Gmail IMAP? I don't use Mail on OS X so I have no first hand knowledge but apparently IMAP on Gmail works fine on iOS, Gnome RedHat, and Outlook on Windows. What other mail clients are encountering problems with Gmail other than Mail on OS X?

Outlook on Windows gives an error (993 I believe) "IMAP server closed the connection imap.gmail.com ..."

Happening for (not four) years now, Google does nothing about it.

    https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/gmail/vf3o9z-hkTA[1-25-false]

Many people don't want to use it due to technical limitations, like this one:
"Gmail normally sorts email only by conversations (threads), which can be a problem for large conversations. For example, if a user sends a query to a large group of people, all of the responses are stored in a single conversation that is impossible to break apart. There is no way to search for responses from one user without getting the entire conversation. While deletion of individual emails is possible, most operations, such as archiving and labeling, can be performed only on whole conversations. Conversations cannot be split up or combined. As a result of complaints from some users, Google made conversation view optional starting September 29, 2010, but there is currently no method to split individual conversations."

Maybe [@]Lorin Schultz[/@] has an answer for your DAW issue. For your other issues just look into a mirror and you will be able to resolve those.

Look, Mavericks on the whole is a fine product, and probably the best OS X release since Snow Leopard overall. However, its version of Mail.app is wonky in ways that Mountain Lion's wasn't and Yosemite's hopefully won't be, and not only when dealing with Google's servers, and that's just a fact.

Your posting style has very little to do with "Truth" in any context other than an Orwellian or possibly religious fundamentalist one. Basically, all you ever do is shower abuse on anyone who ever points out any flaw in any thing Apple does, no matter how minor. Most rational people would cede that Apple is run by humans just like anything else, and that they're going to make the occasional mistake. Mail.app in Mavericks is one of those. So was the sleep bug, which I'm really glad that 10.9.4 has fixed.

Where did you get this nonsense anyway? What slowness? There was no ‘slowness’ to be fixed. I swear to God, what makes you think that because you have an unstable system everybody else does too? Complete baloney.

Typical geek blames user nonsense. Don't bother using that crap on me because I'm not an insecure end user like you're used to insulting.

Because it isn't broken. There is nothing wrong with Mail and IMAP. It's Google's problem.

I don't care who's problem it really is. I see IMAP problems on other providers (I don't use Mail with gmail). If it's incompatibility with other mail clients or mail servers, Apple needs to do compatibility testing and come up with solutions. Pressuring other providers into fixing non-standard IMAP execution is certainly within their ability, if not their will.

We've been using daily IMAP Gmail with Outlook with no issues.

Well, children are known for better imaginations, retreating into fantasy worlds and such.

What did you name yours? “Durandal is never wrong-land”? Because you’re wrong about the claims you’re making. Seems pretty simple to comprehend.

I've had to quit and relaunch Mavericks' Mail.app in order to get new messages on standard IMAP servers running Courier that are not Gmail. Seems pretty simple to understand to me.

I'm going to go talk to adults now. Run along and play.

Okay. Maybe stick to your original claim when discussing something. Tends to make people want to care about what you’re saying.

Anyway, to answer your question, Mail.app in 10.9.3 often seemed to get stuck in a state where it doesn't detect new mail coming in. Quitting the app and restarting it was sometimes necessary to get it to notice that you'd gotten an e-mail, and otherwise it'd just happily claim there were no new messages. It was pretty irritating if you were waiting for an important e-mail and wondering why it hadn't come in yet, only to find out that it actually had, but Mail.app wasn't registering it. Whether 10.9.4 will fix this, only time will tell. The Yosemite e-mail client is reportedly a lot better.

    Bye.
