TS has a point. When we read a book, we peer down more than we do with a computer screen, and we've been reading for hundreds of years longer than using computers.
An iPad is the most natural screen position for a computer so far.
Right now I'm typing this on a 27" display. I know many people who work with multiple displays. How would these work in a non-vertical format?
You’d have them all at a comfortable angle for contact, if that’s what you’re doing with each, or you’d have the untouched ones vertical for secondary visibility.

It's an interesting thought but I don't think it would be practical. If I'm understanding your vision, you're imagining an adjustable angle large screen desktop computer,with a soft keyboard appearing near the bottom as needed. For extended typing, the display would have to be nearly horizontal in order to allow the user to rest their palms to avoid fatigue. Also the keyboard (and a corresponding touch input area), would use up a significant portion of the display while in use which doesn't seem worthwhile unless the computer were mostly used without the keyboard UI (as on an iPad.)

This looks awesome in movies but it would be exhausting for anyone with a typical 9-5 office job.
