Remember all those first-time iPhone buyers back in 2007 that rioted after Steve Jobs dropped the price a month (or whatever) later?  How's about all those iHaters that jumped on that price-drop to ridicule the buyers?

Well?  I expect (and demand) that Amazon do the right thing and refund the difference to those first-time buyers too.  I know they won't, but they should.

Apple didn't refund the difference.  They refunded half the difference.  The refund was in the form of an Apple store credit, so not really even a refund.

The 99 cent figure is still extremely misleading.

Let's say that an average phone plan for two years is $1500.

So instead of 99 cents, it's either

    (a) $1500.99 for the Amazon Fire Phone for two years

    (b) $1699.99 for the brand new, amazing, phone to top all phones, iPhone 6! Assuming it's $199.99 w/ contract

This is also a no brainer.

Are you gonna choose (a) or (b) ?

The Fire Phone is even worse than the crap phones Samsung release every two months. No way Amazon thought they could compete with the iPhone or even Samsung for that matter. Sales figures must be embarrassingly low.

Amazon Fail...err...Fire is a hit. It's number one on the list of Amazon branded phones sold on Amazon.com.

Somehow, the analysts will spin it as bad news for Apple.

    Are you kidding me?

Last I read, the numbers were 35,000!

    Hahahahahaha. What a mega flop! How embarrassing is that?<img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

With 'no more' than 35,000 devices sold, Amazon Fire Phone struggles in 'purpose purgatory'

    Really!

It will only cost Amazombie $800 total to cover the phones sold to date :D

You can keep losing money when Wall Street subsidizes you for over a decade of losses. Keep copying others and keep losing money.

I've seen exactly one Windows phone out in the world.

I will never see a 'Fire' phone, no matter how much Fire logoed tape they wrap around their boxes.

    Lotsa luck with that...

Personally, if I had payed $200 and then Amazon reduced the price to 99 cents without issues me a refund a short time later, I would be pissed.

You mean there are people who would actually qualify if they did??

Their contract demands required the reduction in price of the phone.

Still waaaay overpriced, remember a 2 year subsidized plan is worth ~$500
(most unsubsidized plans are $20-25 less per month, over 2 years, that is between $480 and $600 even at a substantial interest rate that is ~$500 in "today" cash)

Is the Fire even worth $500 (the price you're paying if you get it for free and sign a two year "subsidized rate" contract)

    Not likely...

And I hope the Powerball fairy will give me the winning numbers in advance of the next drawing.

I'm sure many people got burned by the Amazon fire, even before it went on clearance.

This reminds me of the time Krusty The Clown offered a $40 check to anyone as an incentive for watching his show, with the added disclaimer "checks will not be honored."
