If anything defines MCX as amateurs, this does. Walmart executives must now be wondering what they've committed to.
I'm sure there's a lot of second-guessing, but probably not from Walmart execs. Every other merchant could flee, and Walmart would go it alone. If I were to speculate , I'd guess Walmart execs (along with those at MCX ) are doing their best to reassure the passengers on THEIR ship.
Walmart has been working many banking related angles to cut costs for a long time, MCX is just the most visible today.
Oh I realized that right away, but never-the-less I see 'current' C and 'see' electrical inferences immediately if subconsciously. In fact I see AC not C too. But that's just me. It is all moot I suspect ... can you see this even being launched?
You know the best part about this? Seeing all the vehemtn anti-Apple trolls acros the internet cheer on CurrentC, and the disabling of NFC options, simply because it's an "Apple Pay competitor". Hilarious, hypocritical little shits, cutting off their noses to spite their face.
This thread is bound to attract some "this is why Apple fans have such a bad reputation" and "I am better than you because I can appreciate all 20 of my smartphones" trolls.

I'm for shooting the little shits ... ... but that's just the mood I'm in today. :smokey:
The system has found itself in the midst of a controversy over both Apple Pay and Google Wallet, as retailers participating in CurrentC are forbidden from offering alternative mobile payment systems. As a result, both Rite Aid and CVS shut down their NFC-based payment systems this past weekend, blocking the recently launched Apple Pay.
I tried NFC payment at CVS yesterday using my iPhone. It was not shut off, it seemed to work and then said I needed to use a different form of payment. Has anyone verified that Google Wallet and chip cards don't work?
Crap! Thats why i hate Tumblr ... every year someone posts me doing the naked zip-line damn it. I just like hanging [S]out[/S] down there, what can i say?

You are probably expecting a bit too much from the staff at CVS if you think they'd know how to switch it off. Management are sending out wire cutters as we speak.
Yeah, with this model I'm surprised that ANYONE signed up for it. I've read elsewhere that this is how it works, though I haven't diligently verified. But if true, all I can guess is that most people using it have no idea how it actually works, or they wouldn't have signed up.
Wow, not good. Yes, these are old articles, but it's no wonder Wallet never gained a lot of traction. Android phones are inherently insecure in any case, due to the ability of the manufacturers and carriers to install their own crap below and outside the view of OSS Android code, so people who really, truly understand security are not likely to use those phones for financial transactions, but it looks like there were enough signs of trouble even without knowing that kind of detail.
I do think that some part of the ?pay system will be compromised at some point, and some people will jump up and down ranting "I told you so!", but my gut says that it will be a part of the system that's already vulnerable, like within the banking/processing portion of the data path. Criminals, especially those who are solely motivated by financial gain (i.e. most!) look for the easiest path to that goal. Apple's portion of the system seems pretty damn good, and far less likely to be the low hanging fruit. So to speak.
The 'story' is wrong in so many ways? Or CurrentC?
BTW Isn't that just an awful name ... CurrentC... was it supposed to be clever? It makes me think of electricity not money.
I didn't clue into the name at first, but then I did. My first thought was "CurrentC = Current Customer", basically meaning they can get to know their customers really well through data mining. Then I realized that it sounded like "currency", so it made sense why they stuck with it. But I do believe that this program was never about helping customers... it is all about their own self-interests.

Yes with my lousy spelling ability I actually thought Ribena right after Electricity ...
You accessed my iSight Camera?
I'm sure I'd have thought of that eventually ...
That would be useful for running a power cable from Alpha Centauri when we need it I guess.

Well, that's quick. Was it yesterday that someone found out their email check web API was wide open?
That's just beautiful - a public hacking disclosure after "reiterating" that your cloud was "secure" - precious, really.

17 internal testers who are employed by MCX?
