I can't wait until we can get back to talking about Apple and get off the Tim Cook show. All CNBC has talked about today is Tim Cook being gay. How about reporting some real news...like Samsung's crappy quarter. They must be loving Tim Cook right now because the buzz is all around his coming out and no one is talking about their profits tanking.
GTAT and MCX are so relieved they don't have to deal with the public today.
[@]Dick Applebaum[/@], I'm very surprised you didn't know about Turing, his homosexuality, chemical castration and death. For being such a modern story is absolutely Dark Ages for one of the world's most brilliant minds.
On that note, the movie Imitation Game starting Benedict Bumberbatch as Alan Turning arrives in theaters this month. It looks bloody brilliant.
I never said that. I said that is one of the POSSIBLE benefits of being an atheist.
You wrote, "I'm saying many Atheist are Atheist because they want to do what ever they please" Again, that's probably the stupidest fucking thing I've ever read on the Internet.
I know several athesit who said this very thing.
No, no you haven't.
They were sick of rules and just wanted to do what 'felt right'.
Stop deluding yourself.
I did not say that was right or wrong.
Yes, yes you did.
Its a personal decision and i never criticized anyone for making that choice.
Yes, yes you did.
PS: Look on the bright side, your birthday is right around the cor… oh, yeah. Never mind.
So in other words serial killers should not be judged cause they were 'born that way'. alrighty then.
Outside of stating that they should not be part of society because they're not healthy for society, no. You remove them and that should be it. You shouldn't ever think you're better than they are simply because you were not born into an excessively abusing family or born with a damaged brain or atypical brain chemistry.
People with your rigid, close-minded and simplistic belief patterns have historically put homosexuals in the sam category of serial killers and pedophiles, but thanks to cultural changes through education and awareness there has been a slow and steady change to understand that homosexuality is a part of nature, even if not the norm within nature, and that "god's" choice to make them gay does not affect your ability to be decent nor their ability to be productive despite what the doctrine you now ignore states.
I care as an investor. Apple's products are and should remain "neutral territory" for customers. Stories like this undo goodwill created by advertising and word of mouth, because as we've seen here the issue will not soon disappear.
I can see the headlines now: "Child beaten by students at school for carrying a 'gay phone'" ...and I'm not even being hyperbolic. You know this crap is coming.
So sell your shares if you predict that this will hurt AAPL. Even better short the stock; you can make a killing.
If he had "admitted" to having a black grandparent (I'm making this up) and therefore "offended" some redneck who doesn't like companies run by black people, would you have the same reaction? First and foremost he's a private citizen. If he does something to hurt Apple, he can be fired like anyone else.
I expect Apple that, if anything, this will be a tiny net positive for AAPL, but I'm not losing any sleep over it.
My point is two people should not be having 5ex if they are not able to support a child. Because things happen!
So maybe we need to up our sex education in public school, so they can learn how to be responsible and use contraceptives. Knowledge is power, and are you really spelling "sex" with a number 5? Maybe thats the problem, its taboo to you because you're not educated properly on the subject.
I aint judging no one. The courts would. But I dont think its fair to pass the blame away from someone who is a serial killer. I sure the victim's families feel the same as me. And those are the people who count the most.
Blame? That's the strange thing about so called justice. This desire to appease the family for a murdered family member being a good example. It seems logical in a way, until you see how many times people have been railroaded over the years just so there is a person to punish to give the family peace and closure. Doesn't actually achieve much if it's the wrong person, or shouldn't ... yet closure is so good isn't it? There is something weirdly fucked up about that. It is not far removed from some barbarism you'd expect to read about from the middle ages, killing a son for the farther's crimes or raping a girl as part of a court decision to punish a farther and so on. This goes on now in the world today. But hey I'm an atheist, what does Jesus supposedly say about forgiveness? Your the expert. Or is this where you flip to the back of that book and quote an eye for an eye?

As an investor you should welcome this because it will result in a positive for the company just as the other times when Apple didn't take a quiet, neutral stance on other cultural issues turned political (i.e.: labor laws, green initiatives, etc.)
Wow. Just wow. In this thread, I've witnessed so many forms of bigotry and nonsense it's hard to wrap my head around it. The thread is packed full of anti-gay rhetoric, anti-religious rhetoric, anti-christian rhetoric, anti-atheist rhetoric, political rants of different variety, and side debates about whether or not pedophiles have any choice in their behavior.
I've never seen a thread that deserves a lock more than this one.
My point is two people should not be having 5ex if they are not able to support a child. Because things happen!
OMG dig yourself in deeper. You know the 1950's when those courageous few in Boston worked on the first contraceptive pill had to do it in secret because of crazy ideas like that? It was illegal then for all the same sort of stupid garbage you just said and it's 60 years later.
As an investor you should welcome this because it will result in a positive for the company just as the other times when Apple didn't take a quiet, neutral stance on other cultural issues turned political (i.e.: labor laws, green initiatives, etc.)
I know what you're saying, but I see labor laws and green initiatives as rather impersonal and not something that will rile up people (for whatever personal reasons they may have).

And yet this thread is unbelievably civil, despite the many "uh oh" topics being discussed. I say keep it open because change don't occur in a vacuum.

Or perhaps it is best to discuss in a civil way many of these things. It is all connected. Maybe, just maybe one or two bigots may rethink their positions ... yep I'm a dreamer ...
I know what you're saying, but I see labor laws and green initiatives as rather impersonal and not something that will rile up people (for whatever personal reasons they may have).
I agree that it would ideally be less personal, like when Apple simply supported the sexual and genderl rights of others, and in a more perfect world Cook would never have to say he's gay. He could simply just be gay and no one would care just as Jobs never once had to say he was heterosexual. Unfortunately, we don't yet live in that world so perhaps this a foundational comment that will lead to Cook being seen in public with his significant other and/or getting a legal unity under California law.
Plus, this won't help in Apple's attempts to sell in the Middle East or to those whose religious views will now dictate they not buy Apple products.
Well of course such potential buyers may want to consider these things.
You are not a compartmentalised box as a person, yet companies can easily be that. I believe that one of the reasons the world is in such a mess is because so many corporations are utterly amoral. Alan Sugar, ex boss of AMSTRAD said "If there was a market for portable nuclear weapons we'd make them". Raytheon doesn't care who dies as long as it gets to sell more weapons to those who can pay for its products. When a company thinks of nothing but it's duty to shareholders and hang people's feelings, the good of the environment or any wider concerns, it can get nasty.
Apple under Tim seems to be a company that takes its responsibility to the world in which it operates very seriously and wants to set an example of best practice in its behaviour as well as its products. Tim, for example, told some guy at a shareholders meeting this year who was worried about Apple's concern over its environmental footprint that he should basically get out of Apple's stock.
In my book, we need far more companies behaving like Apple, who understand that with power, comes responsibility.
I found these the most powerful sentences in his essay: "So if hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it’s worth the trade-off with my own privacy."
This is why I care. This is why Tim Cook coming out is important. It's because of people like him that making coming out in America easier everyday.

I said people should not have 5ex until they are old enough to support children.
and the person said that was the stupidest thing they ever heard.
It's none of my or your business what others do as long as they don't infringe or impinge upon my or your rights.
GTAT and MCX are so relieved they don't have to deal with the public today.

So two 15 year old kids have a baby and we need to use our tax dollars to support their child.
Kids can't even take care of themself how are they going to take care of a baby. Then that baby gets messed up too.
Great.
You must not have daughters.
Does this describe something that happened to your daughters?

So basically you are saying no crime should go punished?
Kill someone. Thats okay. Something wrong with the persons brain.
Steal something. Thats okay thats the way they were 'born'.
If you ever had a friend or relative that was MURDERED you would understand. You obviously don't.
Why are you bringing criminal activity and murder into this discussion? You're way, way off track.
