Teach people to be responsible and we won't have unwanted children.  But if you give them an easy out (abortion) it aint ever happenning.

A huge problem with your opinion is that it's not true and science proves that. There is nothing out there that supports your belief that having the option of abortion makes people more reckless. People are responsible yet accidents do happen. Condom breaks, birth control pill not 100% effective, etc. If there are accidents and someone isn't ready to bear a child, they shouldn't be forced to. You do that and now you are getting into human rights issues. It's not right for others to decide what a woman can and cannot do with her body.

I do respect JW because at least they try to follow the bible to a tee, even though they can be too literal in their interpretation at times.

I dont find the Bible to contradict itself.  Can you give me an example?

No I have a life ... if you don't know all the famous ones then no doubt you have practiced, canned responses and I wasn't born yesterday.

Surprised by some replies in this thread. If Tim felt compelled to make this declaration, good for him. The fact that some are troubled or confused by it is likely why he made the declaration.

    uh....No

Greek/Egyptian civilizations beleived in a Polyisitic Gods (many God's).  Bible only has 1 God, the Father.

Bible basically says show people respect. Love your family.  Dont murder, dont steal, dont cheat.  For me those are NOT outdated.

How about don't judge? Go back and check all the condescending comments about atheists ... hypocrisy is probably worth a few hours in a hair shirt too.

I'm off for a cup of tea ... so you can get back to Tim :)

You said atheists are atheists because they want to do everything they please. You make a lot of stupid statements but this probably the stupidest thing I've read on the Internet.

If Tim is occupied with other stuff besides directing Apple, then as a shareholder I have a right to be concerned.

I couldn't read the whole thread, but I see no one has convinced you of the most obvious point:

That is, Apple's core business is making products that improve people's lives. In order to do that, they have to embrace—not just tolerate—as many kinds of people in the world that they can. There is zero room in this equation for any favoritism or exclusion whatever. The big sword of gender prejudice has been hanging over everybody's head at Apple as well as any other company in the Consciousness Business at this point in history. Tim says as much in his letter.

Apple is not making refrigerators. They're making mind amplifiers. There is no room for the prejudices of the past in their mission. Silence is complicity. We live in the age of knowledge, and sometimes it seems like too much knowledge to those holding back a bit. But Apple has never held back on its mind amplification stance. It's what made them the company they are, and the way they can ensure they will be in the future. This is a new era when nothing cultural can be hidden.

The coming out part will be over soon.

Whoa! Extremely well reasoned and well said!

It may be of interest to some, here, that Tim is not Apple's first gay executive ... there've been several ...

But, the conditions were not propitious for coming out in those days!

When you think about it, society has evolved quite a bit ... but has a lot farther to go!

The coming out part will be over soon.

I agree. Saying gay people are pedophiles is inflammatory, hateful and wrong.

You seem awfully discriminatory about pedophiles...

If genetics and environmental reasons are why we are the way we are.... Then serial killers, pedophiles, and any number of psychological issues can be explained the same way.

Why one type of psychology deserves to be proud and another must face your judgement is unclear and at best arbitrary.

The human race will learn a valuable and difficult lesson: Free will is an illusion.

    You didn't choose your parents
You didn't choose to like chocolate or dislike it.
You have no idea why you like one scent more than another.
You have have no idea what thought is going to come from your mind a minute from now.
You don't "choose" the details of your environment.

A person no more chooses to be gay than someone chooses to like chocolate. Nobody chooses to grow up and become a schizophrenic, serial killer, pedophile, straight, gay, black, japanese, liberal, conservative, radical, or any other trait.

Things and ideas just "resonate" with you or they don't at some point.

It would be hard for you to describe exactly why you prefer jazz over rock even if uou heard both an equal amount of time.

Different strokes for different folks... You just don't choose why.

Plus, this won't help in Apple's attempts to sell in the Middle East or to those whose religious views will now dictate they not buy Apple products.

Good.  I couldn't care less if ignorant bigots who think they're channeling some sky-creature get to use Apple products or not.

So in other words serial killers should not be judged cause they were 'born that way'.  alrighty then.

Soooo you would judge them? Alrighty then.

More than likely they need treatment. Most 'judging' is another name for seeking revenge, surely that's also on your list of really bad things? That's not to say if one hurt one of mine I would want to blow his head off but we are talking at a societal level i assume.

I care as an investor. Apple's products are and should remain "neutral territory" for customers. Stories like this undo goodwill created by advertising and word of mouth, because as we've seen here the issue will not soon disappear.

I can see the headlines now:  "Child beaten by students at school for carrying a 'gay phone'" ...and I'm not even being hyperbolic. You know this crap is coming.

I respect the choice for someone to choose their religion, but all others religions look stupid to those that practice something else.

    Kinda' sums it up!

WTF? You really need to seek help. No, I'm serious ... unless that was a weird joke you have a serious problem there.
