CompUSA
I just got back from CompUSA. I had to buy a battery for my phone, but I got sidetracked over by the Macs.
The Mac corner has been completely redone, new carpet, new machines, new layout, everything. Is this being done chain-wide? And if so, what do the rest of you think about it? Personally, I think the hardware presentation is a lot better, although the only LCD iMac wasn't really even in the Mac area, it was about 15 feet away, over by the cable modems and stuff (i think that's what was on that aisle). There were a hell of a lot of CRT iMacs though.
What really bothered me though was that there is less software than before. A lot less, it seems. What's up with that?

Generally, I don't either. But I really needed that battery, and everywhere else I went didn't carry it.
I don't know EmAn, the software seemd kind of sparse. maybe it is because it was broken up into a games section and productivity section (i think that's what it was called). but they didn't even have illustrator, and no place on the shelf for it either. that seemed odd to me.
But they did have a sh!tload of applecare boxes.
btw. this was the first time i had ever seen a cinema display in person. : drool :

Yep. The only time in the past year or so I've seen a salesman talking to customers in the Mac section are when the Apple Rep is sometimes at the Palisades CompUSA.

The CompUSA people may be bad but the worst sales pitch I've ever heard was at Sears. Way back in'93 or '94 when the first Performas were being at Sears, I heard a sales person talking about the new computers with 66MHZ harddrives. What a laugh I got out of that. What's even funnier was I saw the same sales person trying to sell a washer 30 minutes later.

Well like I said, it was an Apple Rep.
